For those who can't see tweeets:
The Omarosa tapes, according to NYT, have rattled the W.H. in a way few things other than Mueller's investigation have. Trump's aides have been concerned that they'll make appearances on other tapes, of which Omarosa is believed to have as many as 200.
this post lead to the following response:
Two. Hundred. Tapes. New word, yall... Omaroasted. The Trump Admin is getting Omaroasted like a Christmas ham.

(15,064 posts)Omarosa's going to try not only to maximize her book sales but also angle for other media deals (appearance fees, TV/film rights maybe?).
Trumpland's pain is entirely of their own making. No sympathy here.

(81,681 posts)Her willingness to slowly deploy the tapes for maximum effect is straight from Mr. Trumps playbook, which includes boasts of relying on truthful hyperbole to engage people, of threatening to expose people with recordings and of claiming to have scurrilous information about people that he might reveal at any moment.
Believe me, Ms. Manigault Newman said on MSNBC, invoking one of Mr. Trumps favorite phrases to convey his sincerity, my tapes are much better than theirs.
Ms. Manigault Newman is not the only person who has caused Mr. Trump harm with his own tactics.
Another is Michael D. Cohen, the presidents former personal lawyer, who told allies he did not want to be made the scapegoat for Mr. Trumps legal troubles. Mr. Cohen secretly recorded a conversation in which he and Mr. Trump discussed payments from The National Enquirers parent company to a Playboy model who had claimed she had an affair with Mr. Trump. Mr. Trumps campaign said it had no knowledge of the payments, but the recording was made before those denials.
Michael Avenatti who represents Stephanie Clifford, the pornographic film actress who also said she had an affair with Mr. Trump and was paid hush money by Mr. Cohen has also used the presidents own tactics to rattle him.

(14,498 posts)Almost 100% certainty these recordings (if real) are digital recordings, not tapes. Files are typically MP3s, just like most digital music files these days.
Most people use small digital audio recorders such as those made by Olympus and Sony and you can even get those that look like an ink pen for around $40 that records up to 7-hours before download is required. They all have voice-activated recording capability.
Therefore, Omarosa may have stored and/or passed along copies of these digital files to any number of persons, devices or to cloud storage services.

Omarosa is old school like a lot of us and she used "tape" to mean she recorded something digitally.
So simple to say "tape" versus "digital recording"
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,498 posts)I mainly posted all that to point out that she won't be "making copies" as with real tape and that those digital files are subject to being hacked or passed around to any number of places, depending on how secure she has kept them. We can bet there will be massive attempts to hack these recordings.
A wise person would have at least one copy of the original files on a device in a second, secure location and I'm confident her attorneys have seen to that.

She has enough recordings to release a couple a week up to the mid-terms. Which puts a smile on my face.

(37,648 posts)That's what I recall in one interview. She said she'd been told that he'd used the N word. She hadn't heard him say it herself.
But even if he did and there's a recording of it, that won't hurt him with Republicans. Just independents. (I'm assuming Dems are not going to vote for him next time...IF he's around to run. Which I hope he won't be.)
CaptainTruth
(6,615 posts)... I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me what format these "tapes" were recorded on.
Microcassette?
Call it a pet peeve of mine, but the media keeps talking about "tapes" & yet I haven't used tape (analog, yes there's still DLT for data backup) in years, unless I want to dip into my virgin supply of Ampex 456 1/4" & use it for mastering an album to get that old school tape compression/distortion sound.
So ... "tapes?" Exactly what kind of tapes? It's relevant because it determines how easily the recording could have been made. Ever try to record a phone call on tape on a Studer A800? Uh ... no. Not believable. Tell me the tape format & the recorder used & I can make an informed judgement about how plausible the claim is.
Sorry about the rant, but as someone who records audio on an almost-daily basis, I'm tired of our media saying "tape" when they mean "recording."
Ok ... rant off.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,498 posts)"tapes" is just a worn-out colloquial term that still gets thrown around. I think microcassettes went out of vogue 20 years ago, LOL (I still have one stored away).
BTW, I was in the pro-audio biz many years ago too, designing/building consoles and complete studios in the 70s. We sold Scully and Ampex machines back then and many were 1" and 2".
Lordy, how things have changed. Although I sometimes miss it, it's probably best for my family I moved on to different areas of engineering for a living due to the inherent volatility of that biz. Fun work, though while it lasted. Once I heard music in a studio back in the late 60s, I was spoiled for life.
