America was NEVER that great. Show those who disagree this...

Each dot at the link represents someone who suffered from extra judicial killings (i.e. lynching)
Needless to say, the two most numerous colors are for Blacks and Hispanics. Red is Asians. Pink is Native Americans. Blue is Italians. Green which is for whites, not surprisingly, tend to be people who were accused of, or actually were, helping Black people in some way: abolitionists, helping slaves, registering people to vote, etc

And, as a reminder, these were the extra-judicial killings. Not included are the people who were railroaded by the justice system of the area for being a PoC or for being anti-slave, etc

1884: Monterrey, CA Chinese man lynched for attempting to vote
1871: Los Angeles Wong Chin and other Chinese men were beaten, hanged and stripped bare when rumors circulated they were hiding gold
1872: Safford, AZ Manuel Reyes accused of threats to kill (Hispanic)
1880: Seven Rivers, NM. Juanito Mes for being a desperate character (Hispanic)
1883: Corulla, TX Weaver Accused of theft (African American)
1917: Mitchell County. Joe Nowling. Reason not given (African American)
For African Americans, I found it amazing the high numbers of accused of rape
1923: Marlow, OK. Albert Berch. Refused to fire a black porter
1922: Hardin, IL. JD Douglas. Allowed a black man to live on his farm
Almost all the Italians on the list were lynched for wanting more money for their labor

And I think I saw about 3/4 of your list. What are the odds with that many names?

America is an aspirational national. We aspire to a greatness just beyond our grasp. Or at least we used to. We have fallen short in our history, but as MLK Jr said, the long arc of history bends towards justice.

So yeah, America has not quite achieved the greatness which is seeks. But perhaps the true greatness of America is that we always continued to seek it. Until now.
