General Discussion

I was just reading an article about Avenetti and his efforts to reunite separated families. The article basically stated that while his attentions may be good, more and more people are starting to say he is either in over his head, or only worried about his own appearance/good. It is a very long article that I tried to digest, but I had a thought coming into my mind. If article is truthful, can we here, see past this and not throw ourselves behind someone who may be as bad as current? I am sooo wanting to read news to take our current "prez" down, Im just wondering if we could fall into the same trap as the MAGA lovers. Let's discuss civially.

(3,344 posts)I haven't read the article, but I want a candidate with experience in government, and someone who has been vetted through a previous campaign. I don't want outsiders.

(115,686 posts)He's a shiny object, just like Oprah was a few months ago. And now that he's about to notice the depositions of Cohen and Trump in the Daniels case, he'll have all the media coverage he craves and not enough time to pretend to run for president.

(19,835 posts)No way he's totally pure of heart, and I definitely get the vibe that he's enjoying the spotlight, but so far I don't think he's done much simply for self interest alone.

(7,538 posts)That being said, I don't feel we Dems have as much chance of being beguiled by outsized personalities as the goobers (hope that label doesn't offend anyone...I know deplorables aren't only found in the South). Just drop a post about how you'd like to see Oprah or Colbert run for pres...you'll see sparks fly, I guarantee. Just look at Richard Painter's run for office as a Dem in Minnesota.
Edit* to elaborate... Painter, a used-to-be Republican was trounced by a real Dem in that primary.

(209 posts)I admire what he is doing...trying to help the families get back together. That being said, I would feel much more comfortable with someone like Biden who we wouldnt have to wonder whether hes in it for the right reasons.

(14,531 posts)articles about Avenatti, since he was toying about running for president.
If it wasn't for Avenatti via Daniels lawsuit we would not know what has been revealed this week. His dogged pursuit of "How was Daniels paid" is why trump is having a very bad week.
So of course the right wing is going to demonize him.
Would Democrats actually vote for him if he ran for president. Some will. Pretty sure most won't. For me I would prefer him to be a surrogate for the eventual D nominee. He can beat republikkklans at their own game.

(102,250 posts)Does he do some good? Yes.. Generally well intentioned (when it comes to separated immigrants): yes..
Do his actions benefit progressives and hurt Trump? yes.
Does he make mistakes from either inexperience or ego? yes.
Does he have ulterior motives that might be beneficial to his own future....? likely yes..
I refuse to buy into the demonisation OR the lionization...
Let him find his way and judge him THEN (and only then)...
Thank you hl, this was my thought,, sometimes I worry too much according to MrsKoz ( which means all the time) so I was bouncing my thoughts off this great community. Lots of great replies, I appreciate all of you!

(30,481 posts)That makes you think he might be as bad as the current. He seems to be very ambitious and testing things. He has an ego. Is who he is. Im not getting behind him for anything but he has done things that have me cheering him.

(2,111 posts)what I was seeing, and history repeats itself. Hence my thought. I was worried after reading article, that we could get blinded by bright lights. I know in my heart that wouldn't happen, but, I knew in my heart this f***wad wouldn't be Prez either. Thanks for the input, NC. We on same page

(30,481 posts)Cant imagine what you are seeing that makes you think he might be worse than the current. I know plenty of people with enormous egos and they love the spotlight. Many of them work for the betterment of society.

(2,111 posts)I will say I am trying to verify that this group on DU has more sense than the 63 million dolts who voted for this person in office right now.
Those people all believed that he ( I will not type his name) had a foundation for charity,, gave to Vets (nope), could "MAGA" and all the other lies they fell for.
I was just verifying that what I read couldn't happen here, within a group I feel comfortable saying what is on my mind, it is that simple.

(14,531 posts)if Avenatti wins the nom. I will vote for him. Yes he can be bombastic and self- aggrandizing. But he is also not stupid as the dumpster fire is. I also think it was part ploy to keep the focus off Daniels and on him as a was to insulate her, some, from the deplorables.
I don't believe he will run. That tease was just to keep the media focus on him. Like I said he can beat trump at his on game. He would make a great surrogate.

(32,638 posts)Kozar, I've been on DU for about 1-1/2 years and before that I was reading and commenting on Yahoo for awhile. That would have been during the 2016 election and just after it. Truthfully I became completely disgusted and turned off by all the right-wing assholes on Yahoo. I'm convinced to this day that many of them were Russian trolls, but there are also tons of rednecks (American RWNJs) too.
I'm sure that many of the ones who were on there in 2016 are still on Yahoo now. They successfully chased away just about anyone who had any liberal sensibility at all, including me and many others.
I have no doubt that the Yahoo commenters have been saying horrible unfair things about Michael Avenatti because they certainly had their say about every other Democrat while I was reading them.
Editorially the Yahoo News reporters are trying to appear "middle-of-the-road" because they recognize that all the Dems and Libs were chased off by the commenters. The reporters try to present politically neutral stories on their News feed, but I don't really care because the commenters are rude and ignorant, and Yahoo makes no effort to control the rudeness. Most times you'll find that the same news stories are available on much friendlier websites like Democratic Underground.

(2,111 posts)I do not read comments on yahoo, but, I will admit that I try to read both sides of the news, on websites. I feel yahoo is RW, but I also read drudge, along with other sites ,simply because I want to "know what they are reporting". I feel if I read only what I want to see and hear,, than I am nothing more than another deplorable who only listens to FOXNEWS, ie; closemind
