(56,582 posts)I've never understood a single return from that district.
Bettie
(16,124 posts)you get to choose one primary candidate for each district.
Then, we don't even have to vote, we can just do as we're told.

(7,342 posts)move the goalposts that far back.
Bettie
(16,124 posts)for an incumbent leading.
And I tire of hearing how terrible it is that primaries are a thing that happen and that more than one person tends to run in them.

(24,337 posts)2016: Katko 61% of the vote. Deacon (D) 39%
2014: Katko 59.9% Maffei (D and Incumbent) 40.1
Presidential elections are not reflections of other races
Hence in California there are 7 congressional districts won by both Clinton and the Republican running

(62,276 posts)But it's still rather flippable with a damn good candidate. We don't have that this time not remotely.

(24,337 posts)It appears to be a more 'involved' situation than some of the stories let on
I found this from a site called auburnpub which covers politics in that area
https://auburnpub.com/blogs/eye_on_ny/things-to-know-about-dana-balter-s-win-in-democratic/article_283c77c2-79c1-11e8-bae1-cfd7cb61695e.html
It's a blow to national Democrats. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's decision to intervene backfired. National Democrats didn't embrace Balter's grassroots approach and instead backed Perez Williams. It was a questionable decision then because it split the party. Local Democrats had already endorsed Balter and for more than a month it didn't appear she would have to worry about a primary.

(1,954 posts)Also, Onondaga County is pretty much the equivalent of "Urban rural". Looks like a city area, but there's a lot of fill of both Republican-voting ethnic minorities and white rural emigrants who want the city feel but without having to actually live in a city. There's a lot of areas in New York that are quite similar; take a look at the 2016 election map if you're interested. Loads of red.

This district for Congressional races is a Republican district -- Katko District

(561 posts)and just run the candidate who only represents you personally?
That sounds rather wrong.
