The 100 Evangelicals At Dinner Are Public Enemy #1. Won't Quit Until Get Theocratic Dictatorship.

The evangelical group that met with Trump are every bit as dangerous as ISIS or the Taliban. They fully intend to run the government and the country THEIR way. Now it probably is not really possible that they could take over. But we never thought someone like Trump could ever get elected. Nor did we ever believe that we could face a radical and rogue ultra right wing SCOTUS with a possible 7-2 advantage that could find a lot of their crap constitutional.

When you look at all the religiously based laws being proposed in GOP controlled states it should wake up voters who do NOT want tone told how to worship. Could we go back to the days where Sunday church was mandatory? Doubt it. Then again?

but a huge number of Christians in the US think it's just wonderful. The reason most of these Evangelical leaders are so rich is because their message is very popular among the faithful.

Something 'greater' than themselves. This problem, I posit, is proportional and directly related to the continued wrecking of the economy by wall street. If the average citizens share of economic value were steady increasing instead of lessening, the NEED for affiliation in these groups would be decreased (I think)..

One thing I learned in my education in cultural anthropology, not an expert by any measure, is that this form of tribalism is the result of fear and lack of control over one's own fate and recognition that others suffer in the same manner from similar causes. Some argue that a major draw to tribalism is due to insecurity of one form or another. One anthropologist described religion as, paraphrasing - a venue to appeal to a higher entity beyond the natural world to purposely affect the natural world for their benefit to overcome some obstacle or challenge.

reasons. i saw it in my own family. It's definitely tribalism... but began during a booming economy. While it had nothing to do with economic anxiety, it was certainly based on cultural anxiety. (Just look at that piece of filth in the White House; he's not struggling financially, but still seething with cultural resentment.) To me, it was the fear that non-white people were gaining. Maybe they thought they would then lose something, but mainly i think they wanted to maintain their dominant position. They didn't want a "rising tide to lift ALL boats" equally. And then it got tied to all the other cultural changes they felt undermined THEIR way of life: women's rights (including reproductive rights), LGBT rights, respect for other cultures and religions, etc..

The white supremacist, patriarchy-defending, immigrants-of-color bashing, LGBT-bashing, misogynist evangelicals are not even pretending to give a crap about the priorities of their supposed Savior any more... but instead align themselves with people like Putin!

but the continued and increasing devaluation of *anything* that is not directly tied to profit. The reduction of any type of human-ness (love, art, culture, happiness, science, philosophy, decency, etc) to a dollar figure that determines it's "worth".

Judas was an early modern day conservative disciple.

Judas got 30 pieces of silver, but just once, for selling Christ.

Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker and their ilk get millions of dollars repeatedly for selling Christ.

Judas was a fool for doing a one-time sale.

The Bible describes religion as a "harlot" sitting on the back of the "beast" which is a symbol of government. The description is apt because religion is relying on government. But later, the beast turns on the harlot! Bye-bye false religion!

It's sad, religion is working behind the backs of the people, through the broken government, to destroy democracy. Payback will be difficult for religion but everyone should remember that they "broke bread" with satan....uh....Trump.

“They said what they would do, and we did not listen. Then they did what they said they would do.”

So ends the first chapter of this brilliantly readable counterfactual novel, reminding us that America’s Christian fundamentalists have been consistently clear about their vision for a "Christian Nation" and dead serious about acquiring the political power to achieve it. When President McCain dies and Sarah Palin becomes president, the reader, along with the nation, stumbles down a terrifyingly credible path toward theocracy, realizing too late that the Christian right meant precisely what it said.

In the spirit of Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America, one of America’s foremost lawyers lays out in chilling detail what such a future might look like: constitutional protections dismantled; all aspects of life dominated by an authoritarian law called “The Blessing,” enforced by a totally integrated digital world known as the "Purity Web." Readers will find themselves haunted by the questions the narrator struggles to answer in this fictional memoir: "What happened, why did it happen, how could it have happened?"

Don't think it cannot happen here.

believe that rich people are God's chosen and are destined to rule. They believe that people who got wealthy did so because of God's actions.

Even the Mormons have the White Horse Prophesy which is similar. The Mormons were certainly shocked when Romney lost.

"Won't Quit Until Get Theocratic Dictatorship." Which one?

They all have the idea that their particular religion/faith/sect should be the one in charge.

Whoever wins will enforce their own particular law.

The others..... will they cry 'religious discrimination'?

No 'freedom of religion'?

Ireland was controlled by Christians....... Christians who did not see eye to eye.

goes on. They say they want a theocracy, that the Bible preempts the Constitution because "this is a Christian nation". Day after day, hour after hour, on hundreds of hate radio Bible thumper stations, like KKPZ in Portland, Oregon. Cult demagogues like Bob Dutko out of Detroit, and Barbara Carmack in Denver - who loves to spew verbal vomit about the "deep state" and the "shadow government", while having no clue what she's talking about.

Donald Trump is the savior sent to us by God himself, to repair all the damage done by the Kenyan Muslim.
