I have a huge sense of dread today

I think it is going to be clear that when Mueller ends his investigation and the prosecutions of lesser figures are done, that Trump will be found to be guilty of many, many crimes.

And I don't think anything is going to happen about it. The GOP congress will say "so what"?

And even if we win back the house this year, and Democrats investigate and impeach (which seems unlikely), the GOP Senate will say "so what"?

Paul Krugman's recent column detailing just a few of the ways that the GOP is seizing power, with no regard to law, precedent, or tradition, means that the only thing stopping us from a full slide into fascism is the GOP's sense of shame. Which is to say, nothing.

Democrats are still trying to play by the rules, and I love them for it, but it isn't going to stop this evil minority from taking over our country and turning into a white christian nation, and all of the foul, vicious tragedy that implies.

What if Trump refuses to leave office? Or gets hackers to muddy up the election results just enough so that all anyone can say is "we'll never know how this really turned out". There is no recourse. We can get mad, and that's about it.

sigh

just feeling bad. Like the moment when they pull back the curtain to reveal the brick wall is getting very close.

1. the last chance to stop this was 2016 but we can't give up hope.

It's going to take a huge determined effort to push back because the GOP desperately want a constitutional convention.

4. Was Mueller's presence at Gate 35X at Reagan Airport when Jr. showed up coincidental?

I believe the best course is for law enforcement to immediately take more preemptive, highly visible enforcement actions—arrests and indictments. Bruce Ohr is on the traitors’ hit list, today. FBI and DOJ experts on foreign organized crime are being picked off one by one. The issue needs to be forced by law enforcement.

8. that's going to depend a lot on which parts of law enforcement

are still recognizably American in their attitude. Clearly, Trump's war on the FBI has helped us somewhat on that front. But there will be pressures, firings, etc. that some parts will respond to on the road to Gilead

10. kind of my difference between low lying dread

and a real sense that the forces of law and order are kind of powerless to stop this cabal. even going forward.

Your mileage and sense of dread may vary, of course

12. I'm kind of feeling the same way too.

There is so much wrong here and so much to nail them on, but I fear that there aren't going to be any big, sweeping changes like we have been hoping for.

13. I'm with you. Americans are mad as hell and we will not take it anymore.

The mid-terms will be only the start of the GOP Apocalypse. And if the Russiapublicans mess with the tallies, expect mass uprisings. Americans have not been raised to meekly tolerate a totalitarian state.

14. me too!

...I *do* get the occasional panic attack when watching Rachel and feel the dystopia creeping in, but I try to remind myself that a Nation with 200+ years of being ruled by law cannot just be put down like *that* (snaps fingers)...and besides, the stupid, it burns...I'd like to think they couldn't find their way out of a paper bag.

We gotta keep supporting each other through the dark moments...

16. I have that dread too.

Surrounded by trumpers. They're pumped and no matter his character - the lying, the bullying - the economy is good and "He's a-gonna get them sochulust 'libtards!'
They will turn out in the same numbers as before or greater, I fear.

17. I hear what you're saying but think of this;

Trump has had very little opposition in his first 2 years, as a matter of fact, the traitorous Republican Congress has aided and abetted him. The people who have opposed him he has simply fired. When the press and the M$M oppose him he lashes out at them in rage, calling for the CEO's of the media outlets to be fired. He goes insane when he can't control the narrative.

Fast forward to 2019 when Democrats take over the House. Democrats have proposed 51 subpoenas or investigations that Republicans have ignored. Think about it, 51. Let me just give you one tasty example, Democrats will have the power to subpoena Trump's tax returns. Think about this, Trump goes nuts when he can't control any criticism against him. 51 investigations for a start.

I read this a while back and it very well may not be true. I read where one of the reasons that Trump had his divorce with Ivana sealed was because he had a nervous breakdown. Even if this is not true, just imagine the effect of dozens of investigations going on against a narcissistic Trump starting in 2019.

This is the biggest election of our country's existence. Vote.

18. DREAD NOT !! Dems could 1. Take the house, 2. Open investigations, 3. Submit findings to state level

... prosecutors that are immune from Red Don's commutations or pardons, 4. Put Red Don's kids all up in the jail cell ...

There is hope

19. I do not want Pence to become President!

He's really creepy, and who knows what he'd get up to with a little power. Yes he's not as charismatic, etc etc. But.

My best hope is take back the House and Senate and rein in the lunatic in the Oval Office until the next Presidential election.

Think about it: the Dem candidate will have so much material to work with!

22. Me three

And just to throw fuel on the fire, I'm not just worried that the GOP will simply yawn and allow things to continue (to deteriorate) if Trump is charged, but that we are relying on one man to solve everything. We have formed this messiah like complex around Mueller. That he will swoop down, like a holy avenger, and lay out in such detail, in such a formidable locked up case, about Donald Trump's overwhelming guilt on various fronts. Money Laundering, bribery, using campaign funds illegally, and of course conspiracy with a foreign power to influence the election. To the point that the GOP will have no choice.

What if they get to Mueller too? What if he is 'convinced' to dampen down the charges? Comey was a 'good' Republican too. So he felt compelled to share the information that the FBI had some new emails, based on Weiner's wife's account. No actual proof of wrong doing, just that they had new info to look at. But he felt, as a Republican, that he'd not be fair, or not seen as fair with his peers in the party, if it was found out after (Hillary won) that he had not mentioned these emails.....especially if they ended up being relevant and damning. At least that was his excuse.

Party loyalty may make him pull back the reins to not tar and feather the whole party.....even if many more are guilty.

He could restrict his indictments to the circle around Trump, and conclude that there is not enough proof that Trump himself was aware of the collusion.

He may also be convinced by Trump-leaning military and intelligence brass that NOT indicting Trump is a matter of 'national security'.

Or he may even be subject to physical violence threats, if not to him then his family.

Many situations could happen besides the rainbows and unicorns we are all envisioning ie. Mueller.

...that impeachment is likewise "off the table" should the Dems regain control.

And once again, her blather was all about healing & reaching across the aisle, etc. etc. etc...

24. I think all of the leaking in this case has actually helped the administration

Getting just little pieces of the story at a time has desensitized us all, and makes it seem that maybe all of this isn't THAT bad. Particularly with trump telling his people constantly how all the findings mean nothing. It is much easier to write-off one little story at a time.

Think about it...if everything we now know about his corruption (with Russia, his business, and outside bribes, etc.) was released all at one time, it would land as a huge pile of illegal actions and there would be no doubt that he has to go. But now, we are all used to it, and he has had the time to try and explain or dismiss each allegation as it comes out.
