Biden/Avenatti for 2020? A perfect combination complete with the amiable fellow at the top of the ticket, and the shrewd attack dog running with him, fiercely defending and having his back. Geographically it works, too, I think. And the older/younger dynamic works too.

(115,686 posts)until he's at least spent some time in government learning the ropes and gets the sharp edges knocked off his ego. He's a publicity hog with an inflated opinion of himself, and God knows we don't need any more of those.

(4,178 posts)And make it too much about Trump.
Joe is about America. He is too big for Avenatti.
He needs a running mate who is young, maybe military experience, maybe female ,maybe a minority.

(81,239 posts)Im just in an ongoing ornery mood these days. And Michael Avenatti is a fighter. Brilliant and easy on the eyes. While remaining cool as a cucumber. And he hits back. Excellent, informed, and quick-witted counterpuncher. So I find him to be the answer to those (myself included) who complain that the Dems tend to bring featherdusters to gunfights. I think hes terrific.
But youre right. Michael Avenatti is NOT for everybody.

Kelly O was totally broken in tears.

(115,686 posts)he were the nominee in 2020 his age would be an issue, like it or not - he was born in 1942, so he'd be 76. Therefore his running mate should not only be young, or young-ish, but should be completely ready to take over as president. That person absolutely should not be a rookie at government. The thing that scared me the most about the 2008 election wasn't McCain - although he most likely would have continued Bush's neocon foreign policy, which I would not have liked at all - but Sarah Palin. Who knows whether the stress of the presidency might have done him in while he was in office? The idea of Palin as president was, and is, terrifying. She'd have been a cross between Trump a blonde joke. Obviously Avenatti isn't a dingbat like Palin, but he has no experience of any kind in any elected office or any other government experience.

(81,239 posts)He is indeed a rookie in government. And thats a problem.
Youre right about Biden, too. Bidens age unfortunately IS a problem. But Lordy Lordy does he ever win the likeability and integrity and sincerity awards. Plus, his decades of experience in government.
Who else we got? Lets look at bench strength.
Joseph Kennedy III caught my ear during coverage of one of many congressional attempts to undo the Affordable Care Act. Arguing in support of the ACA, he said this is how we take care of one another.
Ideas?

(4,858 posts)...assuming, of course, that Brown wins re-election. He's got loads of experience, would make a perfect attack dog, and the GOP hates him. Sounds perfect...

(81,239 posts)Hes got a lot of credibility with all the base groups. I like him too.

(115,686 posts)Brown is a good guy, of course, but maybe Dems ought to be supporting a more diverse ticket. Kamala Harris?

(8,380 posts)I want a woman president (and I'm a woman) but I don't know if the dolts in our country think we're ready. This way, God forbid something happens to Biden due to his age (and let's face it, death can come to any of us at any time), Senator Harris is young enough to balance the ticket.
In addition, Joe can stand up to Trump's insults (as I'm sure Sen. Harris can).
In any event, we have two months to get out the vote, and then we can focus forward for real

(81,239 posts)I too want a woman president. We had a once-in-a-generation opportunity for real greatness and talent. And it was stolen from her - by a gang of domestic crooks and weasels in cahoots with a HOSTILE FOREIGN POWER.
