Just have to say this ...

I am sickened listening to Republicans praising John McCain at his funeral, given they're the same people who remained silent when Trump maligned him, demeaned him, and belittled his service and sacrifices for his country.

I don't know which is more nauseating - their hypocrisy or their cowardice.

His constant, obsequious ass kissing of trmp's posterior end makes me want to barf. For him to stand there and praise McCain for values that McConnell (and Ryan and Pence) could never espouse, much less live, all the while they were doing everything they could to undermine McCain, attack and diminish him, doing trmp's dirty work, makes them complicit in the national dialogue trmp tried to force on us.

I still don't understand why Pence was even there. Clearly, the McCain family did not want him there and he was no defender of McCain's. Meghan's facial expressions left little to the imagination about her feelings. Even his Mum - gracious as she was - did not appreciate Pence either.

I even had mixed feelings about Lindsey Graham, who was once McCain's good friend, who did little in the way of standing up for him all the time that trmp was savaging him on a daily basis. As the saying goes, with friends like that . . .

I look forward to hearing Presidents Obama and Bush tomorrow. I'm sure they will eulogize John

Paul Ryan spoke: "...Today our nation bows in grief. But here...we have this beautiful thing. The chance to do for this man what he did for us. To stand up. To stand up and to embrace the cause of his life. No one of us can fulfill this charge. But all of us sure can try. Because all of this, all of this, it's worth fighting for...

...what the hell?? how many Republicans are standing up? fighting for what McCain stood for? what an ass Ryan is...

and as for Pence... he fucking had to make it political by 1st claiming the president asked him to be there and then adding "...(McCain's) support for limited government, for tax reform, and support for our armed forces surely left our nation more prosperous and more secure... As President Trump said yesterday, we respect his service to the country..."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/opinions/wp/2018/08/31/three-men-unfit-to-eulogize-mccain/?utm_term=.ba803c63eb0d

And then there were the three who spoke on Friday. You had to control your gag reflex watching Vice President Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) extol McCain’s greatness as he was accorded the honor of lying in state...

McConnell acknowledged McCain as a “generational leader in the Senate.” McConnell said that McCain represented all the values the Capitol stands for. But what does McConnell stand for? He has accommodated Trump, ignoring or rationalizing his worst behavior. McConnell personally destroyed the comity in the Senate by denying Judge Merrick Garland a hearing and then extinguishing the filibuster for Supreme Court justices. He has refused to protect the rule of law by preventing a bill protecting the special counsel from reaching the floor. In short, he too is everything McCain is not, and has presided over the very changes in the Senate that McCain despised. McCain, with all his soul, cared for and fought for the Constitution, the dignity of all men and women and the basic values we hold dear. McConnell cares about power, ready to enable Trump at every turn. There is no principle for him beyond winning.

And then there was Ryan, come to pay his respects. When he repeated McCain’s admonition that “our identities and sense of worth were not circumscribed but enlarged by serving good causes bigger than ourselves,” you wondered whether Ryan is capable of self-reflection. He lauded McCain: “The sense of purpose that a battle joined can bring. The common humanity that burns in each of our hearts. . . . This is one of the bravest souls our nation has ever produced.” When exactly has Ryan exemplified those qualities? When has he demonstrated an ounce of courage to do what is right rather than expedient?

them new ones over at the Washington Post. Specifically McConnell, Ryan and Pence, the spineless triplets. She said their comments were enough to make her gag since none of them have lived up to their own oaths to the country. I noticed Meghan McCain giving Pence a cold glare while he was speaking. No love lost there.

Toadies, all of them!

I'll always believe that Trump's staff warned him not to invoke the name of McCain's mother, Roberta. Not Cindy. Not Meaghan. Roberta McCain.

Like Barbara Bush, Roberta is the matriarch of the McCain family and fears nobody.

I'm sure that Trump was nearly giddy with the prospect of making a mocking comment of John McCain and his mother but he was stopped by those with far more wisdom than Trump will ever have.

They think it could redeem them. They’re mistaken because we know better and Trump’s Deplorables are probably offended that Trump was uninvited. His basest base are probably angrier at them than we are just for not snubbing McCain’s funeral over the snub to Trump.

There’s not much they can do to redeem themselves at this point. They allowed Trump to commit crimes against refugee families and their children. They are part and parcel of the problem.

If he was any kind of decent person, he would have withdrawn his candidacy in 2008 and let President Obama automatically have the office. He deserves all the belittling he gets.

... we elect our presidents. Candidates don't become POTUS by virtue of someone "letting them automatically have the office".

McCain "willingly opposed the first black major party nominee"? No. He ran as a candidate for his own party, just as Obama ran as a candidate for his party.

Maybe you should be embarrassed by your lack of knowledge as to how our election process works.
