and for damn good reason, we must never forget, excuse or try to rationalize GW Bush's crimes and unquestionably unethical behavior. Just because Bush is able to speak well at a funeral by stating that McCain hated abuse of power doesn't lessen the damage that he and his administration wrought upon the United States (e.g., the Patriot Act, warrant less wiretaps, lying to us about who was responsible for 9/11 and on and on) and upon other countries (e.g., the thousands and thousands killed and tortured in our name in an illegal war.) Bush may appear less vile than our current "president" but he's nonetheless a repugnant person whose reputation shouldn't be improved because he's "not as bad" as Trump.

I WILL say I'll be happy when President Cheney finally runs out of human hearts to consume, and dies for good.

(4,066 posts)Just because W. grew up with old money manners and is able to fake humanity in public does not make him a decent human.
To be clear, W. shares many of the same flaws as Trump. He shares the white privilege of a rich boy whose daddy is responsible for his success. A person who thinks of himself first, last, and always.
He is still an evil human.

(889 posts)Trump is many things. But he is not a war criminal.
Trump has not (yet) started any illegal and immoral wars. And Trump has not (yet) made any decisions that have caused the deaths of thousands of innocent people. George W. Bush did all that, and so much more. He is without a doubt the worst president in US history.
It amazes me that anyone - on the left or on the right - gives him even the time of day. Maybe Bush really is a likable, pleasant dolt. Then he is a likable, pleasant dolt with the blood of thousands of innocents on his hands.
(By the way choie, nice avatar you've got there.)

(7,596 posts)President Dipshit has done pretty much nothing to help Puerto Rico since last year's hurricane and it can be argued that his nearly complete lack of action has contributed to the deaths of a great number of people there.
That we know of.
Perhaps a traitor.

(1,325 posts)I have been shocked by people lauding lil' bush for acting like a normal human today. Well lah-di-dah let's give him a friggin' trophy. I cannot see how his crimes against humanity are considered less important than herr drumpf's humiliating presidency?
George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Henry Kissinger and their ilk are goddamned war criminals who should be sitting in the Hague on trial for their blood-soaked lives. I don't want to be a part of the United States of Amnesia. These people should not be walking freely on this planet. Thank you for posting this!

(7,715 posts)Remember his South Carolina push poll against Senator McCain in 2000? That racist filth helped him defeat McCain for the R nomination.
Think about what the world would have been like if McCain or Gore had won in 2000. That was McCain's real chance, as 2008 was a drastically different world, in large part because of W.
W is disgusting, but the enemy of our current enemy is our friend. So, for the timebeing, his attacks are acceptable.
Never forget that the Republican Party foisted stalwarts like W, Cheney, Palin, Pence and Trump. Mediocrities would be giving them far too much praise. What a line-up!

(16,887 posts)If W had perhaps yesterday apologized for what happened in South Carolina, I might consider giving W a pass....at least on being slightly less disgusting.
But I agree with all you said.

(1,693 posts)Trump is worse than Bush by a mile. It's not even close. Trump is a danger to our democracy and our republic. We quibble with Bush about policies and of course the war, but he was not doing another country's bidding to tear us down. Trump is a treasonous traitor and a vile, disgusting human being on top of it.

(12,885 posts)He used the national tragedy of 9/11 to launch a disastrous war of choice based on lies by manipulating the grief, anger, patriotism, and fear of the Ametican people.
It was the most egregious betrayal of trust by an American president in our nation's history. Bush and Cheney belong in prison, not leading lives of privilege and being praised for not behaving like the vile ass clown who now heads their party.

(47,741 posts)everyday. Most of us wouldn't be here on Democratic Underground discussing this if Bush wasn't so bad as president. Yes, he was every bit as bad as we thought he was back then and he doesn't get a pass because there is someone worse in the White House now.
A privileged rich kid with major daddy issues wanted to play president, because he had something to prove to his father. He was used and manipulated by political power players, corporate interests, and the top 1%. He gave them what they wanted so he could have the title President.
Hundreds of thousands of people died because of his reckless decisions and much of what we are witnessing in the Middle East today can be traced back to the Bush administration. Poor George thought history would remember him as the man who brought democracy to the Middle East, but it is more likely he will be remembered as the man who blew it up.
Too bad he didn't take up painting earlier and left politics for more qualified people. I actually like his paintings.
It is sad to see how many have forgot.

(1,151 posts)agog at how people have forgotten he's a war criminal, because he seems affable and almost harmless now. Good grief. It's actually the only single thing that bothers me about Michelle Obama. I know all the former presidents and their wives share a bond that no one else can understand, and I know she's all about going high (which I admire). But I don't think I could bring myself to be so affectionate with a man who is responsible for so many unnecessary deaths.
THE MAN JOKED AROUND ABOUT LOOKING FOR THE WMDS UNDER HIS DESK, as if it were all a big, hilarious blooper that thousands and thousands of people died based on the "evidence" of those WMDs. I cannot and will not ever forget, or forgive, that. And I didn't even lose a loved one in the war. I can't imagine seeing him chuckling about looking behind the Oval Office curtains for the missing WMDs if my son or husband or brother died in the war. Can you?
There are other things that made his presidency an egregious stain on our country, from stealing the election in the first place, to Katrina, to so many things in between. But the breathtaking disrespect it takes to joke about the lies you told in order to go to war (with the wrong country, for no other reason than to make your oil company friends rich) remains to the sorest spot for me. It's something a sociopath would do. SO. MUCH. BLOOD. WAS. SPILLED. You don't get to EVER joke about it, EVER. Even if the war was completely just, don't fucking joke about the reason so many young men and women died. Ugh.
