Husband-wife team design, paint mural for Barack Obama Magnet School

JACKSON, Miss. —
A husband and wife team were selected from many artists to create a mural for the newly-christened Barack Obama Magnet School in Jackson.


Talameika and Charles Brice were chosen by the Jackson Arts Council to design and paint the mural at the school on Congress Street, which was previously named Davis Magnet School.

“I would lay down a layer and he would lay down a darker layer,” Talameika Brice said.

Both Talameika and Charles submitted their own art, but in the end, Talameika’s colorful version of the former president was selected. The couple spent the hot summer on ladders painting the mural, which includes the president’s quote, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

I was thinking about the McCain funeral. And President Obama’s remarks. And the excerpts from his eulogy that detail and denounce the current - um - “situation” we’re in. With dignity, maturity, and real class.

In times of trouble (like THESE, NOW) We instinctively turn back to him. We return to his stirring words, his calm and reassuring demeanor, the admirable example he STILL sets. I’m so glad he’s still around, still vigorous, still ready to speak up and speak out, still there to remind us of the forgotten better angels we should again be led by, and the bright star of genuine democracy that’s still there to set our sights by - despite the gloomy cloud cover trying to obscure that star from view.

And notice: it’s his clip that’s played more frequently than dubya’s. I think that’s because the contrast become quite obvious - that the goofy, still-lightweight dubya can’t comfort us the way Obama still can. Barack Obama is still the one with the gravitas. He’s STILL the role model. He’s STILL the adult in the room on whom we can still rely. He’s STILL the one who is the most presidential and the one who sets the example of what a President should be. He’s STILL the Comforter-in-Chief. The only clips getting more replays are the more pointedly critical ones by Meghan McCain.

... in the basement of the trump tower in Moscow. It will feature all of his tweets. And finally a copy of his tax returns 2005-2015. Showing just a how broke he truly was in 2016. And, according to Trump Jr. "more than half" of his (our) assets were from the Russians.

Everything else will be display as elementary level flashcard so 45 can review his own history.
