Trump loyalist Devin Nunes facing tighter House race in California as Democratic rival rises in poll

Trump loyalist Devin Nunes facing tighter House race in California as Democratic rival Andrew Janz rises in the polls

California GOP Rep. Devin Nunes maybe one of the most powerful Republicans in the House but he's also a polarizing figure in national politics.

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is in a tighter race than usual, as Democratic challenger Andrew Janz has been rising in fresh polling.

Nunes, a Trump loyalist, may be starting to lose some support in his agriculture-heavy district that has commodities such as dairy, fruit and nuts targeted with retaliatory tariffs.

Polling in the race has been relatively sparse. Leading elections-analysis sites say Nunes is likely to hold onto his seat. The margin may end up being tighter than Nunes is used to, however.

With Election Day 10 weeks away, the latest polling shows Nunes ahead by 5 percentage points, according to a poll conducted in late July of 400 likely voters in the district by Democratic polling company Tulchin Research. It's unclear who paid for the poll; San Francisco-based Tulchin wouldn't identify the funder.

Come on California...this guy is under investigation for possibly violating campaign finance laws
Janz has to get this message out. Nunes’ actions shows a clear pattern of abuse of power, which has undermined U.S. national security and left the United States dangerously vulnerable to ongoing attacks on our democracy. Nunes considers it his job to insulate the president from any consequences in the Russia investigation.

If the Republicans spend 100 million Rubles to inch Nunes across the finish line by half a percentage point, only to have him indicted for obstruction of justice right after the election, and Gavin Newsom appoint a Democrat to replace him.
