General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Senate Judiciary Committee is coming apart at the seams.
Charles Grassley has no ability to control this situation. The republicans are used to having democrats behave like lambs, the aggressive approach of the democrats on the committee have taken them by surprise.
In my opinion, there is something very egregious in Kavanaugh's record. And in my opinion, Kavanaugh is lying about his own background.
Now, Grassley is kissing Kavanaugh's ass saying a bunch of bullshit about how Kavanaugh is fair and unbiased and blah, blah, blah.......
This whole process looks like a cross between a kangaroo court and a hearing in a banana republic.

(2,596 posts)He's definitely one of the most documented proponents of Executive Privilege as an "out" for every wrongdoing or outright unlawful act that a POTUS could possibly engage in (well, except for a Dem!). There documents with opinions and texts and memos that would demonstrate his callow support of cram-down Executive Privilege, as well as bulldog actual witch hunt bear-bating during Clinton's term that prove it. He's on the record making racist pronouncements acting as a foil for the Civil Rights Act. What's happening on that committee sham of an interrogation before them is nothing less of a coronation. It's meaningless. The rethugs are cramming this down come hell or high water. There's nothing that can be done about it save for an Act of God or a stray bullet. He will be installed and he will not recuse himself on matters involving the Special Prosecutor.
He's being put on that bench to render the single most important decision ever rendered insofar as a rethuglican is considered: to ensure a majority ruling to scuttle the Special Prosecutor (now and forever more) and to let them rule as a monarchy with the ever increasingly deranged tRump as the King of America, with the US Congress his lackeys and vassals.

(10,872 posts)Churches know the most devious ways to get the vote they want. If the pastor wants a yes vote from the retired folks in his church, he calls a meeting in a weekday when the working members of the congregation can't make it. If he wants the women to back him, he will call an impromptu meeting during a potluck.

(37,648 posts)It won't change the votes. But it will reveal some truths and preserve them for posterity.
And give notice to the public about this joke of a nomination.
And a YUGE shout out to Cory Booker, who boldly released some of the documents that the Repubs wrongfully labeled "Committee Confidential," taking a risk it would hurt his career and result in being kicked off the committee. (Hey...that's a good name for a movie.) I wouldn't want him on the opposite side, when I'm trying to pull some slippery moves. He's not the type to take it with a smile and a song.
