This Anonymous Op-Ed Writer is a GOP P.O.S!

The naked political calculation this Op-ed is espousing is that as long as we get tax cuts for the well-off one percent class, deregulation of environmental protections for the corporations, and fanatical judges purely to control women's bodies, this anonymous writer is just fine with trying to control this erratic, amoral, deranged fascist dictator. Trump is a convenient idiot that they think they can control by ignoring the Constitution, subverting the White House, and then warning us with a wink and a nod that they are in control even if Trump isn't.

Well, color me unimpressed with this anonymous "resistance" and its phony reassurances. It has far less to do with a resistance movement and far more to do with collaborators and sympathizers. No one on either side of the aisle should feel good about the words written in the New York Times.

1. i know this has made a lot of ppl mad but im not one of them...

..just THANK GAWD someone..ANYONE.. is in the WH trying to do their best to thwart this crazy clown. If they are outed they become one more insignificant body added to the growing pile of trump trashed 'whistleblowers...' at least we have some ppl in there who can say NOW is the time. But maybe thats what they are saying now.. maybe this is a cry for help that they cant completely control bozo without our help. I wish they could tell us what to do. Im focusing more on the message and not the messenger..

3. I don't hear any of that.

I see someone trying to look like a hero. Collaborators often think they are heroes. They are just prolonging Trump's reign.

4. I don't understand why so many are surprised the writer espoused RW views. What did you expect?

I give him/her no heroic accolades, but what is happening in the WH, the incompetence, the damage, the danger coming from a man singularly unfit for office must be exposed. I can't say the timing (nor, of course the anonymity) is helpful and I do fear a "backfire" from the increased Trump paranoia.

But, I am certainly no surprised that a WH "whistleblower" would try to defend their continued presence in the WH by appealing to traditional RW positions and so-called "accomplishments". Of course they would

This person is so complicit in everything Trump is doing and actually is enabling him to do it longer.

They are doing their best in trying to tear down whoever this person is. Don't help them. Just stand back and watch them eat each other up.

You usually don't enable an enemy while tearing them apart.

They are definitely tearing themselves apart.

What I did say was to stand back and let the two go at each other. By attacking the Op writer, you are by default assisting Trump and his supporters who are trying their own best to discredit the person.

21. Yes

When you said that I should... "....stand back and let the two go at each other. By attacking the Op writer, you are by default assisting Trump and his supporters who are trying their own best to discredit the person."

Telling me not to attack someone IS basically defending them even if only passively.

24. You are twisitng yourself into a pretzel

".stand back and let the two go at each other." isn't defending anyone. You, on the other hand, by calling the Op writer a POS, are helping Trump and the Freepers. If the enemy is busily forming a circular firing squad, don't get involved. Just let them blaze away.

38. How's this for support. Obama just agreed with me.

Obama also criticized those in Trump’s administration ― like the anonymous author of a New York Times op-ed published Wednesday ― who claim they’re trying to keep Trump from implementing damaging policies while still working for him.

“They’re not doing us a service by actively promoting 90 percent of the crazy stuff that’s coming out of this White House and then saying, ‘Don’t worry, we’re preventing the other 10 percent,’” Obama said. “That’s not how things are supposed to work. This is not normal.”

17. I just think it is important that we don't get caught up in the catch 22

If we side with the Op-ed writer because they are confirming what we have been saying all along about this Administration, then we are also complicit in condoning the writer's efforts to sustain Trump's time in office by making him seem just reasonable enough. The sooner we see the totality of this buffoon, the sooner we'll be rid of his ass.

35. Do you have objective evidence to support that agreement with A on one singular point...

...directly implies condoning A in his or her totality?

Seems an allegation as broad as yours would require logic and evidence to support it, and there's not really any there.

Maybe if you simply stopped lecturing people on how to react to any one thing, the more time you have to concentrate on critical thought instead.

36. What would you accept as "objective evidence"?

And unless specifically excluding point-by-point someone's overall position, condoning someone's position broadly IS condoning it entirely. Now, unless you just want to argue for argument's sake, let's agree to disagree. You can have the last word, I don't care.

27. The writer is clearly a devout GOPer or they wouldn't be in the admin in the first place.

What did you expect?

They are justifiably concerned about Trump's incompetence but don't want to upset the applecart too much by invoking the 25th Amendment (admittedly a long shot, but why not try?). So they're just going to try to prop him up and keep him from starting WWIII for as long as necessary to get GOP legislation through Congress and nutball Supreme Court justices confirmed.

31. I don't care who wrote it

I want to know why they wrote it.

What are they hoping to getting out of it? What is their motivation?

I would look to those who want power for themselves. I wonder if their motivation is to just make Trump crazy or to stop him, not from screwing with us, but because he’s no longer useful to them. Once they have the Supreme Court locked down why would they keep him?

Why go public with this letter? What do they think will happen because of this letter? Despots don’t have loyal followers outside their own families, and Trump’s family would be useless because they have so far been less than useless. Trump doesn’t have friends. He has people he uses who he discards at will. This letter only serves to push him further into madness, and does nothing to help us. We might be falling for something just because we like to hear it.
