That first time when you have to sit back and say times have changed,,

In a way, a bit of a melancholy day today. I'm 58 years old, and today spent most of my day buying and installing a home security system. The irony, in my mind, was this is due to just one little comment that our cleaning person said yesterday. First off, Im not lazy, but with Mrs. Koz having cancer and doing treatments, and of course my lil Tess, whom most of you can see if you research my posts, I needed a little help.
Back to the moment, Cleaning lady said yesterday, " so, next Friday I am off because you're gone?" we affirmed. The next question sent up every red flag in my brain. " Ok,, so you will have the dogs boarded and it should be quiet,"
Today I feel like my world changed with one statement, we used to leave and never even lock doors, even recently, and now today, this is what I feel I need to do.
You younger folks will not realize the impact of days like today for us who are a few years greater than you.

I guess what hits me more is the fact that today not only did I secure this house,, I also realize I am at an age where I am realizing drastic changes in the world since I was born. It is humbling.

Thanks for listening,

Koz

5. Yep. Big red flag.

Kind of an odd thing for her to say.

I would have taken some action also. I think you made a good move with the security system.

2. Sounds like you made the right move.

That little voice that told you that something was messed up about that has been honed by millions of years of evolution.

4. I am 56 and told my neighbor today

while driving back from a Climate Protest that people have become soooo inconsiderate, especially while driving. She is in her mid 70s and I told her that my parents used to say they never locked their front doors when they were growing up. I have also seen older films where people leave their keys in their cars in parking lots and no one would steal them. I actually am grateful when someone uses their turn signal before breaking to make a turn...a rarity in my area. "Times they are a changin"

7. I am chuckling,

because I actually find myself waving at drivers and thanking them now for using their turn signals!

8. I'm the same at 61...

I was just telling my sis (59) that I don't get upset by bad customer service because I now
expect it, everywhere. It is not good but instead of getting frustrated and angry (she does)
I make a game of how low can they go (in my head)and just move on...

11. If it makes you feel better,

Crime is generally lower nationwide than it was 30 years ago. Of course this has nothing to do with your personal situation. I agree with your decision to get a security system. Ours deterred at least one, and possibly two burglary attempts.

IMO, it is a good choice to lock your doors, even when you are home, and even during the day. It costs nothing to turn that lock, other than a split second of time. This deters not only burglary attempts, but entry by the wrong persons due to misunderstandings, mental disturbance, etc.

12. In most of the country leaving doors unlocked

is something that stopped a very long time ago. Or certainly should have.

Likewise locking your car and not leaving the keys inside. Especially don't leave the car running just to run into a store or whatever. That's just begging to have it stolen.

But that comment of your cleaning lady is a bit strange.
