Ben Sasse called himself an "independent conservative"...

...that caucuses with the Republicans.

He seemed to leave the door open that he might caucus with the Democrats in order to place a check and balance on the Executive Branch? That was just my interpretation.

But, it would seem like a logical move for a Senator that was leaving the Senate, such as Flake or Corker? However, we have not heard anything substantive from those two?

Considering the circumstances under which both Corker and Flake are leaving the Senate, I do not see the profile in courage that might lead either of them to run for higher office. If that is something they have thought about, they may want to think of another option?

It isn't only about Roe v Wade or the rights of corporations. Maybe he'll be the one republican who cares about someone committing perjury in order to get on the SC.

Hey, I know. But there is always a thing called Hope.

judges, those tax cuts for the rich, and the removal of regulations so big business can loot without concern. They just don't like that Trump turns their dog whistles into blaring for horns and rips the mask off who the GOP really are.

This is sort of getting away from your point, but I think it's worth considering.

On the one hand, it means senators could start to vote against Rump, which would make it difficult for McTurtle to corral them. That would be a good thing. On the other hand, it could signal a shift in strategy for the mid-terms. You don't like Rump? I don't either, but I'm still a conservative. That would bring the never Rump Rs back into the fold.

He's just trying to avoid responsibility for Trump and Trumpism while getting all the conservative things he can out of it.

That's typical right wing capitalist behavior, you know, keep the profits and dodge the externalities.

He is just positioning himself to be one of charlatans to revive the vile conservative movement after Trump.
