(30,741 posts)expelled Russian "diplomats," closed at least one of their facilities, and warned Putin.
He could not have done more. His time in office was up. He had open hostility from Congress.
Let's look at who worked with the Russians. It was the trump team, not Obama.

(44,130 posts)It was on his watch. He didn't realize the extent of it and how effective it would be. I don't think anyone did. He turned it over to McConnell for political reasons (he thought it would be viewed as partisan talk, I read, if he alone outed it to the public). I wish he had sounded the call, after McConnell decided not to tell the public.
If only, if only. Would it have made a difference if he had sounded the alarm? I think so, but who can be be sure?
I'm not even sure our intel was doing anything to thwart it, or just tracking it. Homeland Security did alert certain states that they were at risk of being hacked & offered national assistance, but I read that they refused.
But yes, the fact is that it did happen the last year of Obama's administration. We all hate to say it. And it's continuing even now. And we all hate to know that.
We need Democrats in Congress to do what it takes to stop it. The current Republican controlled Congress isn't going to do it, and we know why.

(5,810 posts)I always felt confident that he was studying the world situation and staying abreast of hot spots and things that he needed to be briefed on regularly. I never begrudged his off time playing golf or basketball because I knew when he was in the Oval Office he was working. His vacation time was precious to him because he spent time with his family or back in Hawaii relaxing. But I knew he was also still aware of everything going on. He NEEDED his off time to be able to do the work in the Oval Office. I am glad he took time to take care of himself and his family.
With tRump, every day is another sh*t storm. We know he is resentful of not being able to spend as much time as he wants at his resorts. We know he gets up early and spends the morning fiddle farting around tweeting and watching tv. I assume he is working on his rats nest he calls his hair. But it is not working on the nations business.
So yea, we could all rest a lot better when President Obama was in charge. My insomnia has gone through the roof with tRumpolini at the helm.

(15,257 posts)The russian/repuglicon/plutocrat takeover of the government and media happened subtlely - at least to my understanding.
But this has been a program/agenda for several decades. It will take several decades to rid us of the rot (Kavanaugh/Gorsuch/etc.) that has been installed.

(4,544 posts)Your words describe my own feelings. For probably the first time in my life, I truly felt safe and was hopeful for a bright future. Now? My life is a series of panic attacks held together by insomnia, dread and fear. Thank you for voicing this.

(5,810 posts)Just thinking back to when we had a sane, stable, highly intelligent and committed individual in the Oval Office. What a huge difference with the monster we have now. I just do not understand how anyone can look at tRump and think he is okay. He is not. And that is the stuff nightmares are made of.

(4,544 posts)My (adult) daughter often refers to Obama as "Daddy'bama," not in a disrespectful way, but because to her, he represents the epitome of the Father archetype. He always made her feel safe and secure. He spoke tough as steel and could spit nails when necessary, but could console with warmth and comfort as well. He was always fair and just, wise, and was to be respected. What we have now is the exact opposite. He is cold as ice and terrifying. I'm with you. I don't understand his appeal. I guess they just wanted a "tough guy" who would punish their supposed enemies created from years of being fed RW propaganda. They got a crook and a con man with no morals, but they are blind to the truth. It's a classic "the emperor has no clothes" situation. They've been so deeply programmed, I don't know if we can ever get through to them. I've given up on that. We just have to convince the unbrainwashed majority to VOTE. I can't take much more of this. My health is starting to suffer from the daily stress of this corrupt monster squatting in the people's house. I wish you peace, Grammy. I wish us all peace and comfort, and release from this nightmare.
