He is young, (some think) attractive, obsessed with his physique, likes his drink, has a huge inflated ego, now suddenly a rock star with teabilly groupies throwing their red white and blue panties at him. In the mix his general soulless materialistic personality and lack of integrity, plus ruthless ambition and lust for power= trouble, just wait.

(4,340 posts)But yes, he is a predator. Not sure if he'll have quite the downfall, though. Once he, and everything he stands for is discredited, he'll just fade away into teabaggerdom.

(39,320 posts)that I have roots there. My great+ grandfather was Samuel Fleming who fought the Tories in the American Revolution. I am guessing he's part of the local folklore? That's my impression but I've never been to the area. Manasquan is cited as his birthplace.

(21,078 posts)in Tenant (near Englishtown).. Joshua Huddy (I think that was his name) was the Tory they were after for some reason or other and I believe he was hanged there. Fleming is not a name I'm familiar with but if you go to "Battle of Monmouth" at Google there may be some info..

(3,577 posts)He cast votes in the House too late at night and too early the next morning to have been where this occurred at the time mentioned. The DU post on this was deleted by the author. It seems this was a case of mistaken identity and it is not in our best interest to continue along this line.

(8,556 posts)I see three main factors that determine whether or not a politician cheats.
1) Their sex drive/willingness to cheat (are they that type of person in the first place?)
2) The strength of their political ambition (can they forgo temptation for the sake of their career?)
3) The strength of their marriage (is it working?)
I don't know much about one or three in Ryan's case. But he does seem incredibly ambitious, so without further info, I would say it's less likely.
Bill Clinton, for instance, had two in spades, but was pretty weak on one and three. He had a reputation for liking the ladies long before Monica and you could argue that his marriage had a political alliance quality to it. Were he and Hillary private citizens, I kind of doubt their marriage would have survived this long.
Obama, on the other hand, seems to be pretty good on all three. I don't know much about his sex drive, but he's given no indication that he's a womanizer. And he's as ambitious as they come. Plus, he and Michelle seem to have a good enough marriage (at least it seems that way to me). So he's fairly well insulated from temptation.

(12,977 posts)But googling around suggests he might be tied to some of the dirt that has been coming out on the Wisconsin GOP since the Democrats retook the majority in the state senate. I don't know enough about Wisconsin politics to get all the implications -- but this seems to be saying that the gerrymandering pushed through by the GOP may have been not only partisan but illegal, and that Ryan was deeply involved.
http://cognidissidence.blogspot.com/2012/08/caucus-scandal-2011-edition.html
When the Democrats regained control of the senate, one of things that did happen is that they were able to get their hands on all the documents regarding the gerrymandering. When these became available, most of the media focused on the partisanship of the gerrymandering and how it was obviously meant to infringe on voters' rights. While this is undeniably true, it is also only part of the story.
For example, there is one email from Andy Speth, who is Paul Ryan's Chief of Staff:
"Thank you for being available to participate in the call this afternoon with the Speaker, the Majority Leader and Congressman Ryan. The purpose of the call is to get everyone on the same page as far as the process and timing of the congressional redistricting map is concerned." . . .
I also find it curious why the Fitzgerald boys and Ryan were having their staffers and political aides involved in a process that was so super secret that they had to have all the legislators sign secrecy pacts. Was it secret to give them an advantage or was it secret to hide the fact that they were practicing illegal politics?

And this morning I saw one piece of footage where he was gaze-caught with some blond in the background. No question, in my mind, for all the reasons you mentioned.

It'll be interesting to see a pic of the wife. I bet she's pretty.
Besides, he comes from a wealthy family and has always had his pick of women, I would guess. Sometimes that kind of guy sows his wild oats before he settles down.
I'm also sure that Romney vetted him pretty well on that score. Romney's pretty straight laced and a devoted family man.

She was very pretty when he married her, as well as very smart, an up and comer herself, and very popular. There were good reasons for him to marry her. It worked out well for him, financially. Then she became obese, lost her looks, and he went trolling. Typical.

(20,226 posts)ANYONE could say ANYTHING about ANYONE - based on that kind of depraved and dirty minded thinking. We have plenty of material to use against Paul Ryan on things that really do matter. We don't have to speculate one little bit on matters that are no one's business and don't affect the lives of countless millions like his unmistakable record on policy proposals.
