Former Independent Counsel Ken Starr gave a staunch defense of Special Counsel Robert Mueller amid the ongoing Russia investigation.
Starr, who is promoting his new book Contempt: a Memoir of the Clinton Investigation, began by separating how different he conducted his own investigation from Mueller, who he stressed reports to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, a man Starr believes is a man of integrity. He also expressed similar praise for Mueller.
I know Bob Mueller to be a man of integrity. Ive expressed concerns about some of the people around him and some of the noise that we have seen, Starr told Brian Williams. I think its important for the American people, all of the American people, to have confidence in the integrity of the investigation. Those issues were raised when I was on the duty station, and theyre being raised now with Bob Mueller. But I know him to be a man of integrity.
So its not a witch hunt? Williams asked.
Its definitely not a witch hunt, Starr responded. That is a term used by any and every politician. It was used by Bill Clinton. It was used by the entire Clinton White House when we were doing our work from really day one. Theres nothing there. Well, there was a lot there
Starr also called it a mistake for President Donald Trump to continuously attack the DOJ and FBI and that hes ill-advised to follow his instincts, adding that he too was the victim of unrelenting assault by the Clinton administration from Day One.

(65,010 posts)Kenny, your investigation WAS a witch hunt. There was never anything there. How many indictments, Kenny boy? How many prison terms, Kenny boy?
How's that Baylor thing working out for you, by the way?

(22,035 posts)It's impressive that Starr has expressed his respect for Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein. It's even more impressive, to me, that he's supporting Mr. Mueller's investigation.
But he's dead wrong when he says, "Well, there was a lot there..."
Bullshit.
He was tasked with investigating an old land deal that resulted in a financial loss for the Clintons. But because he was on an actual witch hunt-- searching for anything to hang on President Clinton-- he went far afield and ended up discovering the "shocking" news that the President had a girl friend.
That's what Starr calls "a lot?" A married man lied about an affair and that was worthy of months of jamming the country?
Starr is a partisan hack. Worse, he's stupid to release his book about the Clinton investigation in the middle of TrumpWorld and a mid-term election. The stage is too crowded, you idiot.
Hey, Starr! Who gives a shit anymore?

(22,035 posts)Starr wrote his book and he's releasing it more than 20 years after the fact.
I'm willing to wager that Robert Mueller will never write a book.

(6,539 posts)Just think, after his "independent" council fiasco in the late 90s, he became a dean at Pepperdine University law school, he defended in court proposition 8, and he later became president of Baylor University. Recall that he had to leave the Baylor job because of his role in covering up a football sexual assault! The total irony of the universe actually doubled because of that BS! He went after Clinton for having a consensual affair while allowing sexual assault? Can't this clown do anything right?
His independent council job came about as a spectacular farce. According to Wikipedia, "He replaced Robert B. Fiske, a moderate Republican who had been appointed by attorney general Janet Reno." The GoP screwed America to get Starr into that job. Oh and he continued, for a while, "with his law firm, Kirkland & Ellis," which provided many conflicts of interest including a situation with Paula Jones.
Truly, America should take Ken Starr, Brent Kavanaugh, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump and Hannity, put them on an island and nuke it. These dirty bastards deserve the worst that can possibly happen on this planet.
