could be gone due to the effects of Florence.

The erosion there has been terrible the last few years--particularly near the inlet. This storm may wipe out that area.

Storm chasers do die chasing storms. He'd better get the fu*k out of there.

That area was always too low and unprotected to justify trying to develop. Much of Topsail Island is reasonable elevated, but that north end is a semi-permanent hazard.

It being so low is part of the reason so many north-bound storms head inland near there. As a storm is skirting the coast, the modest elevation of the main island provides some resistance to moving inland. Once it reaches North Topsail, the resistance is gone and the storm heads inland.

I grew up just north of Topsail and just inland. I have seen a lot of storms on that track.

Tired of these silly assed videos, newscasters screaming- tired of reading "are you in the way of a hurricane? Get bottled water!" from people who live ....where?

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but people on the coast that have lived here for more than 10 minutes don't need to hear hysteria, nor lectures on "how to survive."

I am just pissy because our electricity has been off for 12 flipping hours, so I am just now finishing laundry, getting some food ready.

The hysteria on FB, Twitter, DU and everything is annoying. We really don't need to be reminded to have batteries, or a full tank of gas. Or worse: "get out now!"

Yeah.

My guess is that the garage and any living quarters at ground level may end up oermanently under water. Won't be able to drive there, just take a skiff or canoe.

There shouldn't be any rebuilding in these areas. None.
