Republicans block Democratic bid to subpoena Kavanaugh documents

BY JORDAIN CARNEY - 09/13/18 11:09 AM EDT

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday blocked multiple efforts by Democrats to subpoena documents from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's White House tenure.

The Democratic efforts were defeated in party-line votes by the panel, where Republicans hold the majority.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the No. 2 Senate Republican, warned that nominations could be held up for years if the committee started issuing subpoenas.

"I believe it would be a mistake for the committee to issue a subpoena, thus setting up a court case which could go on literally for years," Cornyn said.

Democrats offered six subpoenas in total, including for documents from Kavanaugh's work as a staff secretary in the George W. Bush administration, as well as more than 100,000 pages that the Trump administration asked to withhold from the panel.

Lets be clear here, if and when we take back the Congress, we should under the review process bring, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorusch and this Brett Kavanaugh in do some explaining................on why they should not be removed from the federal bench...............................or any bench for that matter.......................

Not sure where these words originated but they are exactly how our democracy should be approaching the future.

of this "guy's who is sitting in place giving everyone a big middle finger FU from the orange hair one, including him, and they should be brought before committees to explain why they should not be brought back into "review" on what they have been doing and explain themselves.

That is the is function of the Congress to "review the democracy and the republic " and right now the right wing republicans have failed in that job description for over 70 years and counting....................

people who lie under oath.

Democrats should file a complaint(s) with the relevant Bar Association(s) to have Kavanaugh's law license revoked/suspended or whatever.

Election messaging should be for sitting Senators up for re-election: That they are so willing to put a man on the SC who has committed perjury before the US Senate says just as much about the character of the Republicans as it does Kavanaugh.

A Republican offers that as a reason for hiding documentation on Kavanaugh.

Hypocrisy far too strong to rise to irony.

and dishonest actions in his professional life, as well as writings displaying a complete lack of judicial temperament, that were brought up in the hearings and after. Without complete betrayal of duty by Repub senators, this man couldn't possibly pass clearance for a job with WH grounds maintenance.

Hopefully, though, this high school business will excite attention from more people and push another senator to vote no. The parallel with Anita Hill seems to be that she also initially insisted on remaining anonymous. Good luck managing that.

I have just started another book and it is called "Democracy in Chains" The Deep History of The Radical Rights Stealth Plan for America by Nancy MacLean.......................and in the introduction and Prologue, she explains how James Buchanan (economist not Nixon aide) and John C. Calhoun for the 1825- and the Libertarians linked to the how Koch criminal enterprise have been using the model of what John C. Calhoun and Buchannan submitted to the former dean of the University of Virginia as a the base of operation, and she went back into the school and found this trove of information which she wrote about..........................I think now I know how deal with the wack jobs

in order to depower electorates who are bothering the "master class." Those who don't vote aren't their problem, of course.

I have the book somewhere but only got a couple chapters in before setting it somewhere. Not because it doesn't have an important message, though. People like the Kochs have been investing in turning America ultraconservative since the 1960s or so, but this book helps show how their subversion really started taking off in the 1990s.

Today their Republican agents in the senate are trying to ram through someone who once couldn't have gotten appointed to any federal judgeship. He's only unacceptable because his background is so provably dirty, not because his extreme ideology isn't in lock step with this plot to transfer our power and wealth to the few.

Well, it's coming out and slowly getting around. Way too slowly.
