If you'd told me 4 years ago that DU's 2 biggest heroes in 2018 would be Mueller and McCain...

...2 conservative RepubliCONS, I would have said you’re crazy.

Times have changed. We’re certainly living in a different universe these days.

The Era of Trump is like the Bizarro World from the old Superman comic books. Nothing makes sense when viewed from our old perspectives.

2. McCain never did anything that impressed me. Mueller? We won't know what he does until

it's done. There's not a Republican alive that I would call a hero.

10. My best friend in junior high had a much older brother who was a POW in Vietnam...

He was never the same when he was released and though I long since lost track of that friend, she told me what he experienced. He only spoke of it once, just once, after a few too many drinks with some former combat veterans and died a couple years later of an "accidental" motorcycle wreck.

I have to admire anyone who went through what McCain did. Absolutely. Politics don't come into play. NEVER.

11. McCain being a POW was a part of his life that had no bearing on me or anyone

other than him and his family. Many who served in Vietnam went thought what he went through, and worse.
As a Republican politician he never did a damn thing that impressed me and I have no reason to admire him. Again YMMV

3. I don't consider MCCain as one of my biggest heroes.

As far as Mueller, he is doing his job (and doing it well). I don't view him in a partisan lens.

One of my heroes this year would be Senator Merkley for putting the family separations at our border on the map.

4. Somehow, I think a lot of people will defer on your opinion there...

Mueller is doing his job. McCain had a few moments of clarity after a long life of RW bullshit.

I think I can think of a couple of progressives that are more "heroes" than those two.

9. You could try to say that today, but I think you'd be hard pressed to prove it.

Snark just for snark's sake doesn't make something true.
