Paul Manaforts Flip Is A Disaster For Mike Pence
Paul Manafort hand-picked Mike Pence to be Trumps VP nominee, so Manaforts flip could be very bad news for the vice president.

Mike Pence also has a Russia problem
One of the most overlooked aspects of the Russia scandal is the central role that Vice President Pence played in the campaign and transition. MSNBCs Rachel Maddow has been hammering away that the Pence role in the Russia scandal for more than a year.
Rep. Adam Schiff has explained why Pence is going down with Trump in the Russia scandal.

Rep. Adam Schiff Explains Why Mike Pence Is Going Down For The Russia Scandal
There Is A Manafort/Pence Connection
People like Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort know how involved Pence was in any potential activities with Russia. The nation is concentrating on how bad Manaforts flip and cooperation is for Trump, but dont ignore that each flip is bad for Mike Pence. The vice president isnt going to escape this scandal unscathed. If Trump goes down, Mike Pence is going with him.

Just imagine the shit-storm that would ensue. Hillary would be appointing all the committee chairs.

(10,270 posts)Even if it was just a 'placeholder' position, or honorary, or whatever, (cause there's no guarantee of a Senate majority to actually convict the motherfucker if he is impeached by the House) and Pelosi were to actually do the day to day, whip votes, etc...
Can you IMAGINE how much fun and how EFFECTIVE it would be to the task of uncovering the rest of the treasonweasles if Hillary were RUNNING that show? How much absolute FEAR it would instill in anybody who thought about crossing her?
Wanna bet a Senate Republican majority would cut a deal to impeach his ass...on the grounds she stepped down first?

How rocky a road to that point, though. Our first woman would president would have been elected by the people but Trump would take office. Our second woman president would not be elected but would serve as president.

(37,648 posts)How ironic. The wishy washy about-to-leave-politics Paul Ryan is 3rd in line for the presidency, and that could actually happen!
That's bad news, unless the Blue Wave happens big. He'll push doing away with Social Security & Medicare...his wet dream for many years.

(37,648 posts)to push him out, so he can be replaced with one of their own. The alt-right is in control of the House, on some fronts. The Tea Partiers won that fight for the party, unless the establishment can take it back.
Ryan is not one of the alt-right. He's establishment, with a splash of libertarianism (which is what he really is).

(20,680 posts)Donald Trump and the political action committees for Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and John McCain accepted $7.35 million in contributions from a Ukrainian-born oligarch who is the business partner of two of Russian president Vladimir Putin's favorite oligarchs and a Russian government bank.
During the 2015-2016 election season, Ukrainian-born billionaire Leonard "Len" Blavatnik contributed $6.35 million to leading Republican candidates and incumbent senators. Mitch McConnell was the top recipient of Blavatnik's donations, collecting $2.5 million for his GOP Senate Leadership Fund under the names of two of Blavatnik's holding companies, Access Industries and AI Altep Holdings, according to Federal Election Commission documents and OpenSecrets.org.
Marco Rubio's Conservative Solutions PAC and his Florida First Project received $1.5 million through Blavatnik's two holding companies. Other high dollar recipients of funding from Blavatnik were PACS representing Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker at $1.1 million, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham at $800,000, Ohio Governor John Kasich at $250,000 and Arizona Senator John McCain at $200,000.
The convoluted web that links Putin's oligarchs to Trump's political associates and top Republicans is difficult to take in.

(11,736 posts)I recall many people saying and posting that removing Trump from office would be its own disaster because it would leave Pence to become President ...
My response has always been that Pence is just as deep in the Russia conspiracy as anyone else, specifically because he was Manafort's personal pick for VP and Trump did not initially choose him. I also believe that Ryan and McConnell are involved or at least aware of the goings on with Russia. I normally do not subscribe to any conspiracy narratives, but swinging an election to one of the least popular candidates in modern history is work that has to be coordinated on many levels.

(58,785 posts)We've seen extreme self control in Pence all this time. Although I don't doubt for a moment that he's guilty of something from being in the middle of that mess, he may well have been able to maintain not just legal separation but plausible deniability for the electorate and come out with the press hailing and honeymooning President Pence as America back on course.
Plus, I don't care how Laurence Tribe puts it, although Manafort did unquestionably help foist Pence on a reluctant Trump, that this hireling chose Pence, a man with his own power bloc and well above his grade, seems extremely unlikely. That would mean Manafort got Pence to agree.
What would Manafort and Trump have to offer the governor of Indiana except four months of humiliation, degradation, ruin of his career in politics, and unemployment? Pence would know a great deal about Manafort's background and have nothing but contempt for the depraved buffoon. Where are Junior and Javanka in this picture?
Okay, so an interesting offer comes from Putin.
Pence is already on the Kochs' short list of people to run for president or other high office. Why on earth would he become Trump's VP for Putin when he could do the same thing for those he's already allied with, without any risk of prison? Undoubtedly at that point Pence and the Kochs etcetera knew that Russia was interfering to try to defeat the Democrats. The only reason I could see would be if Putin was blackmailing him...
But notably, after the fact we know our American right-wing billionaires did belatedly get behind Trump and later did a fantastic job of stuffing his administration, including the cabinet, with their people. The list Trump agreed to choose SCOTUS nominees from was also made up of their choices. Would they have skipped the VP slot -- unless given the long shot that Pence was slipped past them by Putin and Manafort and thus they had to keep their distance? Especially when the chances of Trump serving out his full term were very questionable?
All a way of saying, I'm with everyone in hoping to see Pence in an orange jumpsuit. But it's very possible things are progressing according to a plan made in America.
