My God. They had Haley Barbour on this morning to cap off an entire week of watching hayseeds in Dumfuckistan 'Murika smoking cigarettes from a hole in their necks and bragging about how great a kisser their sisters are.
I think it was Haley Barbour, it might have been Boss Hog from Dukes of Hazard.
Hard to believe we lose elections to these asspickles, but I guess if you can't talk like you've got a softball size chunk of tobacco in your mouth, the majority in AL and MS consider you elitist.

If you ever got the impression that Southern right-wingers hate Black people, they do - and the ingrained belief that they were somehow responsible for the Confederacy's loss, believe it or not, is probably the biggest reason why.
They've all brainwashed each other into thinking that (a) the Confederate cause was right (even holy), and that (b) Black treachery somehow gave the Yankees the necessary edge.
Having said that, please note that there are many exceptions to this rule. But among Southern Republicans, that's basically the situation.

I lived in Mississippi for several years, and saw this obsession at work.
I might add that it got a lot worse after Rush Lumpball became popular among Deep South listeners around '92/'93.
And yes, they hate Bill Clinton too. Southern right-wingers see him as the biggest traitor of all (and Hillary, as a pedantic carpetbagger).
Why, they're not exactly sure themselves - but being a "n***er lover" is what they seem to resent about him the most.
I grew up in NYC we had our share too. However they didn't treat it as a Religion.
The best part is that states like Mississippi and Alabama are utterly dependent on federal spending.
The ones in Ole Miss (Haley Babour's alma mater) are probably the worst - and believe me, it would be nothing but a two-shack community college were it not for the "damn gummint."

Only saw the first hour but it was fun having John Meacham on set with everyone else. It was a looser and more jovial opening hour overall even with all the serious things going on.

(15,330 posts)Until they brought Haley Barbour on. He's a walking, talking generalization of "southerners"
To break the stereotyping, the south really needs to stop electing caricatures of the worst among them to positions of power.
But the first step is to convince southerners that they are being played with "cultural issues" to vote against their best interests.
