Only two of the 65 women who vouched for Kavanaugh stand by him after accuser comes forward

.

Abandon Ship!

Shortly after the contents of an anonymous letter were revealed last week accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault as a teenager, Senate Republicans issued a letter signed by 65 women vouching for his character.

After the accuser came forward Sunday and put her name behind the allegations, only two of those dozens of women stood by Kavanaugh on the record, reported Politico.

The website attempted to contact all the high school acquaintances of Kavanaugh who signed on to the open letter, which was released shortly after the claims were made public.

The timing of that letter led many to speculate that GOP lawmakers were aware of the accusation, which Kavanaugh has denied, before Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) received the letter and turned it over to the FBI, which declined to investigate further.

What's the matter? Why didn't they stand by what they said? Or did they really say it?

Nothing like the bright light of the truth to make them run for cover.

Before she came out they didn't know who she was. Now they know and realize it is probably true.

Whether or not they actually knew him while they went to the sister academy at the same time.

"Our experience with him from that time is that he treated us and other women with respect" = "we may have passed each other in the hall going to the school dance" or "we got drunk at the same parties with the boys at his school thirty years ago - we don't really remember what happened or who was there other than our girlfriends or the guy we went to the party with, but nobody ended up in the hospital and we're all okay now..."
or "My husband/ex-husband was his classmate, and he didn't tell me anything bad about Kavanagh from that time whenever we all met for business or networking..."
So, sure, they'll sign...
They're his "peers" - part of his social and/or political network. Not his victims or anyone he would otherwise ignore.
At schools like the ones he went to, he was taught enough manners and awareness on how not to shit in his own food bowl or harass anyone who might help "his career" from a very early age.
Kiss up, punch down.

4. As usual, Raw Story's headline is misleading.

What happened was that two women specifically defended the letter and their support of Kavanaugh. Some two dozen other women who were contacted have not responded or declined to comment; so far nobody has specifically repudiated the letter. Raw Story's headline inaccurately suggests that all but two have backed off, which is not true. The Politico article cited by (Yuk! Ptui!) Raw Story actually said this:

Kavanaugh’s defenders on Sunday included Meghan McCaleb and Stephanie Conway McGill, two of the 65 high-school acquaintances of Kavanaugh who signed an open letter last week vouching for his character after the allegations were first reported.

“I stand by the letter I signed. I do not know this woman,” said McGill by email on Sunday, referring to Ford. McCaleb added, “I absolutely stand by the letter we signed.”

More than two dozen of the women who signed onto the letter did not immediately respond when contacted by POLITICO on Sunday about whether they still stood behind their defense of Kavanaugh. Two of the women who signed the letter declined to comment.

If there is smoke...there is a binder full of women at the ready.

Were these women wearing "He can grab me by the pussy" T-shirts?

16. The numbers don't add up, so it is impossible to tell what the headline means.

More than two dozen (24 + at least one) did not immediately respond
2 declined to comment
2 reiterated their support.

That comes to 26+ of the 65 women accounted for. What did the other 39 say? Did they reach them?

2 out of 4 (the only ones who specifically responded) is a lot different than 2 out of 65 (which the headline implies is the complete count).
