Even if he does not answer, the recording will be in his message queue and he will be charged 10 cents a minute. He has an old phone and buys minutes.
Dunno if they will call my landline, but calls always go thru the answering machine before I will pick up.

The fact is that the emergency call plan was first brought up under Shrub. I cannot recall if it was ever implemented during his or Obama's time.

I already have the app for the County Emergency Broadcast system for some reason or another (with Amber alerts turned off), but those two particular times, I had switched phones and not re-installed the app, so it surprised the heck out of me both times.

And while you can usually shut off other specialty alerts your phone provider or ISP might carry (Amber, "Silver", severe weather, earthquake and tsunami, etc...) you can't turn off Critical Emergency alerts (like the National EBS). Because they're emergency text alerts, they're supposed to be free of charge - just like 911 and reverse 911 calls are also supposed to be free.
If it's just a standard EBS, I'll live with it. What I'm worried about is that the Dumpster Fire in Chief will start using it to rally his sniveling little Nazis or otherwise create Chaos.

With Verizon, anyway, you can opt out of all alerts (Amber, Weather, etc.) EXCEPT Presidential alerts. Those are listed as "Mandatory."

Or when the Royal Residence (the White House, renamed) has run out of KFC Extra Crispy?

Or when Comrade Donald is feeling kinda... anxious, if you know what I mean...

In truth, it's gonna be a nice little boilerplate "this is a test" message. It probably won't even say "NO COLLUSION!" or "JOIN US AT THE NEXT 90-MINUTE-HATE RALLY IN BEAVER BEND ON OCTOBER 23" or "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!" -- but I'm not taking any bets that it hasn't crossed his mind.

Where all network traffic was handled analog and locally. It took some time for your communications to get out there, but out they went and in they came, eventually.

Maybe we'll go back to that point again, out of necessity.

as part of the National Emergency Alert System would make sense. I feel sure (hope like crazy) that it'll be a pro forma alert for the test, until the next test in September 2019. I'm crossing my fingers that this will be the one and only time Trump's name will be associated with something like this.

Come on, Mueller!

I don't think that my prepaid phone is WEA capable. It doesn't show the symbol that the FEMA website shows on the box that my phone came in.

My bill is due by midnight tomorrow. Just to be safe I'm not paying the bill until the 21st. By not paying on time, it will be inactive. I'm hoping with my phone being inactive, that I'm spared a WEA from Sid Syphilis.
