On toxic masculinity

by Liberal Librarian

I must be doing something wrong.

I’m 49 years old. I’ve gone all 49 of those years without ever having been accused of assaulting a woman. Mostly because… I’ve never assaulted a woman.

In the Trump regime, it seems that disregard for women is a job prerequisite. The latest example is Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who denied ever assaulting a young woman in high school. This woman, Christine Ford, came forward this weekend, standing behind her accusations. Now the GOP line has gone from “It didn’t happen” to “It was so long ago” and the ever hoary “Boys will be boys.”

snip

When someone says “boys will be boys”, that person posits that it’s natural for boys to be violent, abusive, even criminal. “Boys will be boys” excuses sins and misdemeanors. We saw this in action in the absurd sentence meted out to Brock Turner, the Stanford rapist, by a judge who felt that “boys will be boys”. This phrase is one of the most pernicious in regards to women’s equality. And it shortchanges men, making them seem irredeemable, subject to animal desires. A society which accepts a certain amount of violence from men is quite simply a sick society.

I for one am pretty fucking sick and tired of our lives being dominated and limited by old, rich, white men. Furious about this. Vote the bastards out!

The idea that all men, regardless of age, are capable of rape demeans the entire gender. He said "huh." This wonderful man and solid Democrat never thought of it like that.

If he didn't, the RWNJs never will.

And the most horrific comments came from women who said "boys will be boys". Hopefully the worst one is a Russian troll but one lady said she was a clinical psychologist and that 95% of her patients had some kind of story about a guy trying to get inside their pants during high school.

She goes on to say that it's just a natural reaction by men of learning how to channel their sexual desire and if women have to say no a couple times and the man doesn't assault her than it's not rape. I really hope "Cosette" is not a real psychologist because she ended by saying probably every woman had this happen to her at some point in her life. If she is real, I pity any daughters she may have.. I usually don't reply but after seeing all the recommends for that post I had to step in. Talk about 1950s mentality.
