The invitation to Dr. Ford only went out yesterday. Unsurprisingly, Dr. Ford may not have had time in the last 24 hours to arrange her schedule to appear on the other side of the continent next week. Grassley got around to canceling his committee's Thursday vote only a short time ago.

Dr. Ford may also be waiting to see just how this invitation plays out: Is this a legitimate inquiry into the matter, or is she being set up for a public mauling? What are the ground rules? What are allowable questions and areas of inquiry? What assurances is Grassley giving that this doesn't devolve into a free-for-all? Given Republicans' track record, I'd be exceedingly wary of any invitation to go before any committee they control.

Ford should be given reasonable time to prepare for the hearing, and she needs to make certain she isn't the defendant in the proceeding.

To be done like Anita Hill was done IE: NO more FBI background checks on Kavanaugh, NO additional witnesses for Ford, just crazies like Hatch going in on her. It'll be a her vs him scenario, and it'll be game over, HE wins. We know how having no additional witnesses hurt Anita Hill. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford probably won't want to go through this mess, all that hate. Of course Collins' suggested that Ford's lawyer question Kavannaugh, but all he has to say is "I don't recall" or "It wasn't me".

At first I Collins was just posturing, but it could have been a scare tactic with the veneer of getting at the truthiness.

16. Honestly, I don't blame her if she does not want to show up

At the end of the day - when the dust is all settled. She will have to go back to her life. She has had to bear this trauma her whole life. Now we want her to put it on display for the world to see and be attacked in a public forum. Yes she is the one that chose to come forward initially - But these things are so complicated. She may not be ready for the onslaught of character assassination or may not be prepared to be re traumatized.

I hope she shows up. If she chooses not to. As a fellow victim of sexual trauma myself, and also as one that deals with victims of sexual trauma, I get it.

If she chooses not to testify in a public forum, I hope no one on the left, gets upset about her decision. I mean you already have old white men like Orin Hatch declaring that they don't believe her. Stating she is " mixed up". It can't possibly be Kavanugh that's mixed up because he was a teenager that drank too much and can't remember what he did back then?

Either way, I think the Republicans will be up shit's creek. Women will be very angry- Thank you Dr. Ford for coming forward, whether you choose to show up on Monday or not. I think it will just energize more independent women to vote these fools out of office.

And like YOU and many others have said, I wouldn't blame her if she chose NOT to testify. The FBI can do background checks on Kavanaugh, but the request to do so would have to come from .... The White House. Not gonna happen. Kavanaugh and this Judge guy could have been drunk during this house party, so maybe they wouldn't remember what they did. I believe her though, but unfortunately, this Supreme Court theft has been rigged from the very start. But as you said, women will be very angry, angrier than they are NOW. This big, ass blue TIDAL wave IS a coming this fall 🌊, and the year of the women is underway again like it was from 1992, except THIS time, it'll be on steroids, and will BE for a while.
