This is one of the many messages we need to tell people. We have to repeat as often as possible "the Republican dominated House of Representatives, is responsible for the way things are going in Washington."If a family member or friend says that they like their Republican representative and will vote for him in November, you repeat the above.
America will only be successful again, if all Republicans are defeated at every level, nationally, statewide and locally.

(18,402 posts)It used to be that you could pull the lever to vote a straight Democratic ticket.
That is rarely possible anymore. In most states with optical scan ballots, for example, you can't simply mark one spot to vote an entire ticket. You have to individually mark each race -- for the Democrat, of course.
Only 16 states still have straight-ticket voting (and really only 14, eliminating NJ (primaries only) and WI (no longer available):
Alabama
Oklahoma
Indiana
Pennsylvania
Iowa
Rhode Island (3)
Kentucky
South Carolina
Michigan
Texas
New Jersey (1)
Utah
New Mexico
West Virginia
North Carolina (2)
Wisconsin (4)
1. In New Jersey, straight-ticket voting is available only in primary elections.
2. In North Carolina straight-ticket voting is available for all races except for presidential electors.
3. In Rhode Island, straight-ticket voting is available only in general elections.
4. Eliminated by AB 7(2011), effective as of November 2012 election.

(4,033 posts)I'm in PA. I vote absentee (I work at the polls), and even though I'm given the opportunity to put an X in the straight Democratic box, I still individually vote for each race.
I would suggest repeating to people that if their representative/senator has an R after their name, and they mark that box, they are allowing these men & women to bring even more havoc & ruin to this country.

(1,185 posts)never voted for one R since first vote in 1966.
I remember an old Molly Ivins' saying, God rest her soul, "Ya gotta dance with those who brung ya." And when someone runs for office, they have to decide which letter to put after their name, which saves me lots of time.

(11,481 posts)for Senate is an anti-gay libertarian. I won't vote for Corker, but I sure can't vote for that slug either. Maybe there'll be a Green candidate running.

(4,033 posts)I forgot about that candidate you have. Didn't the Democratic party disavow support for him?
