What's the big, thundering hurry, anyway? The Supreme Court got along just fine with only eight justices back in 2016, according to the same leadership that's still in place in the Senate today. The Court will do just fine with only eight justices in 2018. This is for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court, something that should proceed deliberately and soberly (you should pardon use of the word), with proper advice and consent (oops, another inconvenient word).
