In an extraordinary turn of events, the police chief in the city where Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted Dr. Christine Blasey Ford when they were teens said the department is prepared to investigate the accusations when and if a complaint is filed.
Though the alleged assault took place decades ago, there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Maryland.

(1,379 posts)If I understand, she cant remember exactly where it happened, so although Counties are pretty big, wouldnt she need a definitive address?

(6,324 posts)And in all honesty that would be tough.
And even if they can do that, they are still down to a case of different stories and no other evidence.
So they have to start with them figuring out when and where. Because you cant really start seeking witnessss or evidence without that.
Then you need to find strong supportive evidence. And thats hard. Especially since her own narrative places all the key details behind closed doors.
Lacking either Ford withholding some bombshell info I expect at most the most you may find at this point is someone who remembers them all being at the same party at some point. And not be able to say if its the right party.

(6,324 posts)Establishing that the agency does indeed have proper jurisdiction will be a main early priority.
Failing to establish a location willl make it harder not only to investigate but lets the defense have an easy challenge to the whole thing on a basis of jurisdiction in the unlikely event it was charged.

(7,627 posts)They were teenagers. She recall all of them who were here. Karl judge, kavanaugh , that other guy Fitzpatrick and she also recalls the other two young women. Likely, that party happened at somebody's parent's house or at least one of these teens is connected to that location. If the police interviews them all, they would find out.

(22,114 posts)limitations on sexual assault (besides murder too)...in a lot of cases, molestation had occurred and evidence gathered (rape kits etc.) but the DNA forensics technologies hadn't evolved enough, to be of any help.
Also, those who have been molested, may suppress the horrible event in their mind, and perhaps in time
recall the horrible event when they get older. By then, they may be able to emotionally and intelligently deal w/ the horrible event in their mind (either by themselves or w/ help).
But now technology has gotten better, in gathering, preserving, and comparing samples against various databases available to see if there are any matches. Of course as time goes on, more and more samples are accumulated (DNA of those convicted, community efforts to protect their children, via DNA samples, etc.).
My heart goes out to every victim.
