When Donald Trump won his upset presidential victory in 2016, Christine Blasey Fords thoughts quickly turned to a name most Americans had never heard of but one that had unsettled her for years: Brett M. Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh a judge on the prestigious U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia was among those mentioned as a possible replacement for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in 2016. When Trump nominated Neil M. Gorsuch, Ford was relieved but still uneasy.
Then Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced his retirement and Ford, 51, began fretting again.
Her mind-set was, Ive got this terrible secret. .?.?.What am I going to do with this secret? her husband, Russell Ford, 56, recalled.

(16,887 posts)Can't even think clearly...because I grew up like her in the same area and even belonged to the same Country Club. I went to a public high school down the road but was friends with all the same kids from area who went to G-town Prep and also Holton Arms.
I lived right near the Country Club off Connecticut Avenue.....I am sure my fathers house is right near where the assault may have happened. I am sure that I have met her before and our paths have crossed, even possibly with Kavanaugh....
To read this story stirs so much up, including that I chose to move to California after graduating in order to get as far away as possible. I had an abusive high school boyfriend and I figured I could start anew as well. He is well known and in prominent circles in Washington now. I am a survivor of trauma and depression. I understand what Dr. Ford has experienced and just reading this article made me shake.
What is being done to her and what the GOP and Trump and the Grassley and his minions are doing and saying, just makes me want to throw up. Its bringing up trauma for me and millions of people who are victims of abuse. And its bad enough what is happening in our country right now and how afraid we are for our democracy and then to now see and be experiencing this and seeing what they are doing to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
We may very well have a SCOTUS next week who attempted to rape a young 15 year old girl and a Government and Nation that allows this to happen....
And he will then make decisions for our Nations laws and laws that govern us and our bodies....

(10,721 posts)A massive cultural change is called for. Like with racism, we're talking here about a systemic problem of epidemic proportion. Democrats need to advocate for a change in the way we bring up children. This cycle of toxic masculinity and misogyny must end.

(16,887 posts)I agree with you and I am certain that how I am feeling right now is happening all over.
We do need a massive cultural change and yes, just like the same forces that drive racism, this ugly cancer on our society needs to be stopped.
