Man Torches Truck & Home After Reading Reddit Post That Colin Kaepernick Now Sponsors Ford Trucks.

.

OldJalopyNews.com
September 20th, 2018

At 2:15PM, a Plano, Texas man set fire to his Ford F-150 after reading that Ford has turned to Colin Kaepernick for its new 2019 advertising campaign. Cletus Butleiker used a charcoal grill accelerant to ignite his vehicle, which soon spread to the laundry area of his home. The Plano Fire Department responded within 2 minutes, however, the Plano Police Department had to clear the area, as a cache of small arms ammunition posed serious threat to the first responders. This contributed to near complete property loss.

Neighbor, Cindy Cantrell, noted that, "Cletus is an odd man. He took offense to football players who showed disrespect for the flag and national anthem, while at the same time instigating police officers at every opportunity." Another neighbor, who refused to be identified, stated that he "would walk around his property at night, in his underwear, while wearing a Make America Great Again hat and carrying an AR-15 rifle."

Plano police have detained Butlieker, pending a bail hearing, which is scheduled for Monday morning. He is being held on arson, property damage and assault of a law enforcement officer. One officer sustained minor injury to his arm and required the use of his department-issued stun gun to subdue the assailant. Butlieker's prior convictions included unlawful discharge of a firearm, multiple police evasions, resisting arrest, assault on arresting police officers, several counts of sexual assault, harassment of neighbors and property theft. His weapons are lawfully owned, according to Texas statute, so he will not be charged with the destruction of his residence due to firefighter safety concerns. Besides his priors, Butlieker is viewed as a model citizen.

The posts that really get under my skin, though, are the ones that are not satire but false/misleading news articles/sources. They start off with a few recs, people comment that it is fake/misleading, the recs continue to rise and the OP never deletes or edits to indicate the error. Luckily they are far and few between.

Don't get me started with the different Twitter personalities posted by a few (i.e. #TeamPillowForts).

I have posted Raw Story articles in the past... I have learned the error of my ways (usually if it was just a recap from a cable news show, or what-not)

I can't believe that it is an acceptable source for LBN. In fact, LBN sources should link to the original reporting or be locked, imo (sites like Raw Story, Mediaite, Political Wire and The Daily Beast* are among the most cited in terms of using second-hand reporting).

* The Daily Beast does some good original reporting, though.

Is the hatred towards the Right from our side so intense that in some of us, it's blocking our critical thinking or reading apprehension skills?

Do some of us want to believe the worst of our political and cultural opponents?

Sometimes, I think our country is irreparably split.
