This time, the questions were much different. An array of White House aides, playing the role of various senators on the Judiciary Committee, quizzed Kavanaugh last week about his sex life and other personal matters in an attempt to prepare him for a hearing that would inevitably be uncomfortable.
In his answers during the practice runs, aides said, Kavanaugh condemned sexual assault and carefully avoided seeming to discredit Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor in northern California who has accused the nominee of pinning her to a bed, groping her and putting his hand over her mouth to stifle her screams as he tried to take off her clothes at a drunken high school party in the early 1980s.
But Kavanaugh grew frustrated when it came to questions that dug into his private life, particularly his drinking habits and his sexual proclivities
He declined to answer some questions altogether, saying they were too personal.

(14,076 posts)If Kavanaugh was a black-out drunk in high school, he can't credibly deny the charges. He can't know everything he did.

(26,737 posts)She too is probably preparing to answer things like "how many boys did you sleep with while in high school" - "You say you had a couple beers... was that common for you at 15? - how many other parties did you drink at that year?" - and can be expected to refuse to answer many of them.
But too many people are accepting of the victim blame game these days.

(2,120 posts)....when confronted with accusations of sexual impropriety ?
He protested that the hearings were a "lynching", using a racially
loaded term to put change the subject and become the victim.
Look for Kavenaugh to have some sanctimonious rebuttal ready
when the left side of the committee bench starts asking about
things too "personal", like his gambling, drinking and the other thing
about barnyard animals.

(40,210 posts)There has to be someone in that White House who sees that. Cant they see they need to cut him loose?
Of course, with each day Kavanaugh is in the picture, the better it is for democrats.

(15,286 posts)and pushed his selection to Trump. He seems unable to make the rational choice to cut Kavanaugh loose. It makes no sense as McGahn has been fairly sane as WH counsel and has spoken extensively with Mueller. Even McConnell told him Kavanaugh's confirmation was iffy.
There are plenty of rw judges who could be confirmed, so why push him forward in the first place? Could it be that Kavanaugh is political hack with a law degree and can be counted on to rule in favor of something when it helps Rs (ala Bush vs Gore) and against the same thing if would help Ds? For ex, if the court would expand executive authority, that could be used be all future presidents, not just republican ones. A real jurist, even a conservative one, is very likely to uphold precedent, but one who's a political hack wouldn't.

(4,461 posts)... McGahn knows better than anyone how vulnerable Trump is re the Meuller investigation and the likely House investigations after the mid terms. Kavanaugh represents a vote against investigating trump. I thinks its that simple.

(527 posts)Add to that a drinking problem and he is wholly unqualified. Sexual assault on top of drinking and gambling makes a very dangerous person.

(1,291 posts)or will the Republican Senators do it? I really hope Dr. Ford wouldn't consent to anyone but Senate committee members asking the quesstions. If they're going to attack her credibility, then the Senators asking the questions need to be on the hook for that (5 weeks before the midterms).
Has anyone other than Senate judicial committee members ever questioned a Supreme Court nominee in the past?

(5,790 posts)Somebody will know the post I mean. There were four points: One of them was (paraphrasing) was that there is said to be a Kavanaugh "me too" story that would drop, but that story was not the Ford story - it was another story.
That post also hinted the gambling angle should be more carefully explored.
