2. Not recalling and denying are two different things.

Not recalling means they don’t specifically remember. A denial is that they do remember that they were not there.

3. Why? Because the huge stakes for them don't allow it.

Because NONE of this is about Ms. Ford or her story. We need to keep up front what this is really about for all of us.

* Control of SCOTUS.
* Victory in the midterms and control of our nation.

The Republicans must win this SCOTUS nomination because to lose it now might well be to lose the midterms disastrously. Their rapidly diminishing electorate may still turn out enthusiastically if given another SCOTUS victory and fail to turn out otherwise. Notably, they have time to confirm another nominee this year, but not necessarily before election day.

And they MUST win the midterms if they are to continue the transfer of wealth and power to their new ruling donor classes, reinterpret the constitution to limit the rights of the individual and grow the power of the state and business over the individual, and of course to dismantle our protective regulations and social support institutions.

they've run into in trying to dismantle institutions woven into the fabric of our nation. Being stopped by the courts from violating whole webs of existing laws is only part of it. Needs of business and the citizenry are huge also.

Like the clean air and water acts of the early 1970s, which have become part of very complex public and private constructs at all levels and can't just be done away with, or they'd already be history. They're even having to destroy the ACA bite by bite because in even 8 years it had become too entrenched in a web of ancillary laws, business needs, and societal dependence.
