You will probably hear of one Republican voting against to keep up appearances and retain hold of her office.
It will be done with McConnell's blessing because they can afford to lose one vote.
It's all politics, my friend.
Justice and morals have nothing to do with it.

(15,139 posts)returning this corrupt turd to stink up the already fetid cesspool that is the R side of the Senate, are ultimately to blame. How could anyone listen to that and think, "Hell, yeah, that guy has my vote!"? Bunch of assholes.

(11,885 posts)The control of the Senate needs to be retaken by the Democrats from this election in Nov. . McConnell and trump are working for putin not our country now.

(58,785 posts)all carried away. The hearing is an investigatory period when the senate is supposed to examine the candidate and determine if he is worthy for elevation. Yes, the Republicans have taken this process in a very bad direction.
But give them a break. There are reasons for what they're doing and they have absolutely nothing to do with Ms. Ford and Mr. Kavanaugh 30 years ago.
The midterms are an enormous, existential battle for national power. They MUST win if they are to continue the transfer of wealth and power to their new ruling donor classes, reinterpret the constitution to limit the rights of the individual and grow the power of the state and business over the individual, and of course to dismantle our progressive social support institutions.
They must win this SCOTUS nomination because to lose it now might well be to lose the midterms disastrously. Their rapidly diminishing electorate may still turn out enthusiastically if given another SCOTUS victory and fail to turn out otherwise. The mob does not reward failure.
On the bright side regarding their ruthless and amoral tactics, so far to the best of our knowledge, they haven't murdered anyone in pursuit of their goals. Presumably that would come after they realigned our nation into an authoritarian state, when the consequences wouldn't destroy them.
