There must be so many women and teenage girls who are having intense emotional experiences right now, especially those going through it now or who have recently have suffered an assault.

The republicans are despicable.

train as a boxer or kick-boxer. How many guys would even contemplate assaulting someone like Gina Carano?

I think it's also important to talk to girls (and boys) about the possibility of assault, maybe expanding to let them know it's ok to tell mom/dad/teacher etc anything and s/he won't be mad at you.

We can't always expect justice. We have to take matters into our own hands. When do we as women fight back and say, "Enough. Never again."

I will shortly be 71 -- my mother taught me and her mother taught her and I taught my daughter. There is not a woman alive who does not know "awareness." We are aware.

If you tried to live your life the way we are taught from birth to live ours just in order to not be assaulted, you would feel like you were being incredibly constrained. We are being incredibly constrained -- but it becomes second nature, it's just the way things are. Well, the way things are sucks.

The hazards begin before puberty and continue into old age. The time of maximum hazard is just when a young person begins to spread their wings. Girls' wings are clipped -- "for their own good." And it doesn't even guarantee their safety.

So take this to heart: the problem lies with how boys and men are raised. The sense of entitlement. Knowing that their future is all-important, and when they get to that future, that their career ambitions are all-important. So much more important than any girl's or woman's future or career.

Vigilance requires mental, emotional, and physical energy. It can be exhausting.

And constraints -- how many times are girls lectured to on not attending certain events with classmates, or not taking certain regular jobs, because of event reputation or other knowledge about seemingly innocent congregations of peers?

...all girls and young women need to learn how to NOT TO GET DRUNK. Know your limit and stick with it. Don't trust any male you don't know well. Be careful where you go on a date, always be in a public place. I know I sound old-fashioned and maybe I am.

Too many parents have shirked on their responsibility to keep their daughters safe. Parents must teach their daughters how to keep themselves safe. The first thing to teach them is that many/most young men will take advantage, if you give them the advantage. I know that daughters lie to their parents about what they're doing and where they're going. I was a teenage daughter once, and I surely lied to my parents when I thought I could get away with it. The dangers are so much greater now than when I was a teenager in the 60's.

These white, old assholes and their enabling and approving molls, who are telling boys and young men - men in general - that is okay to assault, rape, victim-blame, the victims of such physical attacks and then the subsequent vilification and ridicule of those victims, along with giving a high-five pass at gun violence and armed confrontations by predominately white males, are emboldening and approving of such behaviors. THAT is the language and verbal instruction to the current and future generations of white males in this society. And then they seek to pack the highest court in the land with similar men who will institutionalize this by enacting laws that will box in women and other minorities in perpetuity.

This makes me rage blind.

Sun Sep 23, 2018, 10:17 AM
Sep 2018

Memories I had buried deep inside myself.

I remembered it all when I heard dump's words to "Go home and tell your parents ... *blah blah*".

Well, I did just that!

It was the first job I ever had and it paid $3.00/hr.

The boss man offered to pay me overtime if I'd help him after work. The job was to assist in the purchase/transportation of a new bicycle to his apartment in Diamond Heights in San
Francisco.

We got the bike and off we went to the apartment building to leave it. We drove into the complex (a prison-like cement structure) and as soon as we drove and in I heard the door slam behind us, I knew chaos awaited.

The SOB attempted to rape me. I began screaming and crying. He stopped and took me outside. I ran as fast as I could until I found a bus stop.

The next day I called that job and quit.

I told my parents about why I quit my job and they did not say a word, nope.

So on I went in life seeking another $3.00/hr. job.

I remember that man's name as he had personalized plates on his white sports car.

Sickening bastard he was trying to rape a 17 year old "kid", and yes, I was just that still, a "kid".

What a load is all I can say.

No recourse some 45 years later!

#MeToo indeed!

& recommend for the rest of the #MeToo women out there!

They just did not really give a damn, that was the problem and hence the reason I was out working a job at 17. I said I was 18 and no one ever knew the reality of any of it.

It sure ruined my life. No job, no nothing.

I had to apply for food stamps but was turned away as I was 17 years old and my parents were supposed to have a role in my life. Uh huh ....

Was told this all through my teenage and college life a few decades ago. Growing up with the idea that "Boys will be boys" has always meant even "nice" boys would constantly try to do as much as they could get away with, under any circumstance---even hallways at school.

This has been the situation since at least the 50's, as far as I can tell from reading and asking older female relatives, when dating at a more frequent level, began as a cultural norm.

Sep 2018

For far too long, sexual assault and rape, especially for “first-time (or so they claim) offenders” have been treated as no more serious than a broken fingernail. This whole “boys will be boys” meme is disgusting, and in my more Abrahamic monents I wish to see an eye for an eye treatment, such as forced rape in return to punish a man convicted of rape. Perhps then rapists might understand the violence and humiliation of their crime. Instead, we have male judges who excuse their behavior and give them a slap on the wrist. Or parents who tell victims, “It only takes twenty minutes, just lie back and enjoy it.” And why would women come forward to report assault and rape when many police departments refuse to spend money having them tested, resulting in many more women being raped by serial rapists. Some police departments have decades-long rape kit backlogs, which sends a very clear message that the rape of women is totally unimportant as a crime. Until that attitude changes and there is real punishment for sexual assault, nothing will change.

The counselors who work at rape crisis centers across America - and many are on college campuses - spend a lot of time counselling the young women into realizing that it's not their fault. Because most victims are only too willing to believe that it is their fault. Even some parents tell their daughters that, and it's so wrong and so unfair.

Born in Cuba, she ran in the republican primary for Florida's 27th. Got 757 votes, describing herself as a "virtuous candidate." She's VERY pro-Trump. On everything. She's also a member of the Florida's Log Cabin Republicans, serving as treasurer and VP. Never married, she has no children.

I'm not sure that she's exactly the person I would ask to tell me what 17-year old boys do. (This is NOT meant as an insult, but an observation, so don't flame me.)
