What Is Mitch McConnell Thinking?

September 24, 2018 at 6:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Playbook: “A congressional leader is supposed to shield their members from tough votes — and there is no one better at that than Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Whether the allegations are proven or not, has the vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh become too politically toxic for Republican senators to take? Will he, somehow, nudge Kavanaugh out, press PreSident Trump to nominate someone new and try to get the nominee through in the lame-duck?”

“Will Kavanaugh withdraw? Kavanaugh is a veteran Republican who signed up decades ago for a conservative reimagining of the court. Would he advise a friend in his shoes to stick it out? Or would he say that this nomination is hurting the larger cause?”

He wants this nomination as much as Trump, who wants it for his base, and his own self-gratification.

This is just another finger in the eye to the majority of Americans who despise Mitch McConnell and what he stands for. A power play for the ages: You thought we'd waver on a rapist? Nope; he's a well-connected white guy, went to all the right schools, made or was handed all the right career moves, and we put him on the Supreme Court in full view of everyone.

help Republicans get elected...or if that fail to put conservative policy into law by judicial fiat...the courts are so important. I wish some on our side and realized this in 16. No matter how you feel about Hillary Clinton,we would not face this if she had been elected.

McConnell sold his soul when he decided to block pretty much everything Obama tried to accomplish. He overstepped big time with denying Merrick Garland the opportunity of a vote. As leader, he has single handedly trashed the decorum of the Senate.

prosecute a sitting Supreme Court Justice.

If convicted, the impeachment and removal would be much easier as GOP would have to defend a convicted sexual abuser prior to 2020 or 2022 elections

Kavanaugh has sworn personal fealty to drumpf and Russian repugs and they have to have him in place to protect the so-called president and themselves from charges of conspiracy and treason. Is there another judge out there as venal as Kavanaugh, who gives no shits about the country, it's constitution or the working class/poor? They don't want to go down that path, they already have their stooge to protect them, they don't want to have to find someone else as morally compromised as Kavanaugh.
