Nationwide Walkout Planned to Show Solidarity with Sexual Assault Survivors as Ford Reaches Tentative Deal to Testify. Thousands of people across the country have pledged to walk out of their workplaces and schools on Monday at 1:00pm EST. By Julia Conley, Common Dreams, Sept. 23, 2018.
Women and men across the country are planning a national walkout on Monday afternoon in a show of solidarity with sexual assault survivors, as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford prepares to testify regarding her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
More than three dozen progressive organizationsincluding NARAL Pro-Choice America, CREDO, and Planned Parenthood Action Fundannounced the event late Saturday, calling on survivors and allies to wear black on Monday and to walk out of their workplaces, schools, and homes at 1:00pm EST. Supporters will also be posting photos of their participation online with the hashtag #BelieveSurvivors.
"Dr. Blasey Ford has bravely come forward with her story of sexual assault at the hands of Brett Kavanaugh, despite knowing this will come at great cost to her life and her family," said NARAL in a statement.
"Her willingness to testify in the face of relentless bullying, victim-blaming, and unfair Committee process by Republicans is yet another symbol of her courage and her willingness to speak her truth. She is not alone. Allies want her to know they have her back."
By Sunday morning, more than 5,000 people had pledged to join the walkout as supporters spread the word on social media. Hundreds of Ford's supporters are also expected to stage protests in Senate offices on Capitol Hill Monday, while alumnae of the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland, where Ford was a student when Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted her at a party, planned a vigil outside the White House on Sunday at 5:00pm EST. - Read More...

Kavanaugh at the hearings laughed off questions about ever 'getting into trouble' in high school and implicated friends.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) questioned Kavanaugh about getting into trouble at the elite all-boys school Georgetown Prep, eliciting nervous laughter. Dodging, Kavanaugh told Kennedy that at Georgetown Prep, I had a lot of friends, Ive talked a lot about my friends. And theyve been here. So it was very formative. When Kennedy pressed his question about trouble, Kavanaugh replied, Thats encompassed by the friends, I think.
Kennedy concluded by saying hes decided to not ask Kavanaugh whether his underage friends were sneaking a few beers past Jesus. Kavanaugh shook his head, said Hey, and giggled again in response someone off-mike saying I want you [Kennedy] to [ask Kavanaugh]). It is unknown what motivated Kennedys questions at the time, although Kavanaughs close friend and classmate Mike G. Judge recorded in his book Wasted the binge drinking that dominated those years at Georgetown Prep. Similarly, Kavanaughs yearbook entry made repeated references to keg parties and vomiting and more.
