... and Cheeto is too chicken-shit to do it face-to-face. He's trying to get Rosenstein to resign, and then he won't have to fire him. It's not working, because Rosenstein and Mueller are already 3 steps ahead of him.

The other issue is that IF Rosenstein resigns (not fired) then Cheeto can appoint anybody he wants to replace him. Another right-wing toadie, even somebody just like Brett Kavanaugh. But if Rosenstein is fired then the rules are different about who can replace him.

So the stakes are very high on this one, and Mueller and Rosenstein have already worked out the different scenarios.
