Democrat says Kavanaugh denial is not credible
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s denial of sexual assault allegations is not credible because he has not called for the FBI to investigate the matter, says Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Why has Brett Kavanaugh not called for (an FBI investigation)? The survivors of these sexual assaults have called for an FBI investigation — that speaks volumes to their credibility and the failure of the White House and Brett Kavanaugh to ask for that kind of investigation also speaks to lack of credibility,” Blumenthal said in an interview with Hill.TV on Monday.
Blumenthal said Thursday’s hearing where Kavanaugh and a woman accusing him of sexual assault should be delayed.
“My hope is that there will be a full-faith investigation that develops all the facts and evidence before our hearing, that we'll do the hearing only after that investigation, and provide the opportunity for Deborah Ramirez and for Dr. Ford to be heard,” Blumenthal said.
Republicans have rejected the idea of having an FBI investigation of the matter, and on Monday signaled a desire to move forward despite the charges from Ford and another woman who accuses Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.
