Maryland changed the drinking age to 21 for beer and wine in 1982, well before his 18th birthday.
He blathers about the 18 drinking age, but he would have NEVER have been legal at GP.
He would have not been legal until 1986, well after he left the school.
This POS is definitely a scumbag liar.

(51,642 posts)"Tis better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt". He is a fool for not keeping his big mouth shut! When he said a virgin into his college years as well I thought that someone will come forward to say, "What?!?!" That seems too easy to disprove.

(33,958 posts)When I was 18 in 81, the drinking age was 18.
It changes in 82 when I was 19 to 19.
When I was 21 in 84, it changed to 21.
The fucker lied.

(1,533 posts)Anyone in my class year and the year after could drink, those younger could not. It went from where you drink pretty much anywhere on campus as long as you were not being an ass, to mandatory fines if your beer broke the lane of your dorm room door. Of course that was college campus rules, but we were legal to buy and consume alcohol by state law.
I have no idea if Maryland's laws were the same as Minnesota's but it possible that he was grandfathered the same as people my age in Minnesota.

(36,747 posts)He was born just slightly after me in 1965. He wouldnt have been grandfathered, since MD passed the 21 law in 1982.
This guy tries to lie his way out of everything.

(36,747 posts)We shoved it back up to 21 in 1978.
Didnt stop it, though. The booze flowed freely when I was in university.

(3,915 posts)She could drink for a year, then was underage for two more. When she eventually turned 21, we were vacationing in a dry county, if you can believe that.

(10,070 posts)No one would have cared. He just had to lie to protect his squeaky clean image? I was in high school in the 80s and plenty of kids drank.
This guy obviously did not think his answers through. Sillier than Bill Clinton's I smoked marijuana but I didn't inhale. Just tell the truth. He was nominated to be a Supreme Court Justice and he chose to lie about underaged drinking. Idiot.

give the guy a break! it's not as if he was interested in being a lawyer, or anything. It's not as if he was interested in going anywhere alcohol was served. it's not as if his father was a judge and his mother was a lawyer... so why on earth would he know?

(75 posts)Not only did he claim to be a virgin until he was several years post-high school graduation, he also claimed that he had never assaulted anyone, that he had never even witnessed any sort of sexual assault (were his frat parties all baby-christening events??), that he did not know Christine Blasey and did not remember ever meeting her, and that he did not attend the party in question a huge mistake, because its date, time, and location have yet to be disclosed by Dr. Ford. His lies about the drinking, and Maryland's drinking age, are just piled on top of this. He continues to show his utter stupidity, just as Trump does, by lying about trivial, extraneous, and verifiable things.
It's the equivalent to Trump swearing that he's never been to Russia, never met a Russian, never done business in Russia, and never had sex outside of marriage. It's just full-blown preposterous but extremely Stalinesque. I don't know whether Moscow is involved with Kavanaugh's PR campaign or its funding, but the level of absurdity and mendacity of his defensive attacks seems very Kremlinly to me.
I now expect him to say all of these things when he goes back under oath on Thursday which is why a thorough FBI check of this man, including his gambling and quirky finances, is imperative. This is no longer an issue of 'mere' sexual harassment: it is an issue of someone baldly lying under oath (he lied multiple times in his application papers, if I understand it correctly, as well as during the prior hearings) today and without apology, and simultaneously demanding a seat on the United States Supreme Court. Apart from Trump himself, I've never seen white male privilege writ this large.

I do remember them raising it from 20 to 21.
