Lawyer: Firing of officer who killed neighbor is premature

DALLAS — The firing of a white Dallas police officer who fatally shot her black neighbor inside his own apartment was premature and unfair, an attorney for the officer says.

Robert Rogers, who represents the fired officer, Amber Guyger, said Monday night that Police Chief U. Renee Hall "bowed to pressure from anti-police groups and took action before all of the facts had been gathered and due process was afforded."

"That's not the way our system of justice should work," Rogers said in his first statement since the shooting.

He called the Sept. 6 shooting that left 26-year-old Botham Jean dead "a tragic mistake" and said "words can never express our sorrow for the pain suffered by those who knew and loved" Jean. Rogers added that Guyger "is completely devastated by what happened."

It was anti-trigger-happy-police-who-shoot-people-in-their-own-homes groups. Accuracy is important.

I'm so tired of that "anti-police" canard pushed by "justify everything police officers do no matter" people. People are angry- and justifiably so- with how some police officers get away with shooting first and asking questions (or smearing the victim) later, especially when it comes to minorities and almost never being prosecuted and/or held accountable for their actions when they do mess up. There is also a glaring difference in how police treat white offenders with "kid gloves" while often blowing away minorities with nary a provocation.

They get several days to create a cover story if they are involved in an incident.

While a civilian is expected to be interrogated immediately.

you questioning the decisions of the Dallas Police Dept? Does Amber Guyger think she should keep her job after she stupidly went into an innocent person's(Bo Jean) apt and shot him dead?

Oh wait, he's dead so we can't. She needs to serve a minimum of 2-3 years for manslaughter and never be allowed to own a gun again.

She aimed her gun at the man and intentionally pulled the trigger, which meets the malice aforethought aspect to make it murder and not manslaughter.

She acted as judge, jury and executioner against an innocent man, but of course she's the victim here.
