I actually think they're doing a great job, win or lose in the end.
Remember, they have ZERO official power to do anything.

(16,448 posts)Hell, Sheldon Whitehouse worked that slime over repeatedly but none of that counts with some folks, apparently.
I enjoy Avenatti but the idea hes the only one doing anything is fantasyland shit.

(24,437 posts)He's good at what he does and I appreciate what he's done, but I feel like he's a bit full of himself, especially when he starts attacking the Democratic Party and suggesting a possible Presidential run in 2020.

(50,303 posts)and Kavenaugh would have been confirmed. Maybe Democrats in the Senate are doing work behind the scenes we don't know about, but until Avenatti showed up it seemed the Democrats were communicating in ASL.

(58,706 posts)given the Repub steamrolling them at every turn.
Repubs have proven they care nothing for rules and norms of how the Senate should operate.
The Dems are fighting hard, but when the majority won't allow any push back from the minority, it's hard to fight them.
I suspect the Repubs will get their SC judge. We need to vote in Nov to make sure this is the last one they get for a long, long time.

(24,437 posts)They might have voted for him until the sexual assault allegations started coming out. If it gets to a vote, I would hope/expect at least every single Democrat to vote against him at this point. And even the red state Democrats would be plenty justified in their vote against him.

(24,437 posts)I hope they don't. There's literally no good reason to do it now.

(19,114 posts)It's a win for the country if they're successful in getting Kavanaugh withdrawn. It's a win fore them politically either way.
If Reps seat Kavanaugh, November will be even more of a route because you know the accusations will not stop, there are more women who will come forward from now through the election.

(82,849 posts)More media time could bring the grade up, but that's out of Democratic hands. For what they've had to work with and the disadvantages built in to the system, they're doing great.

(16,125 posts)that is what I personally wanted to see.
Win or lose, they weren't pushovers which is, frankly, what I feared.
But, I also don't want to see a single Dem vote for this predatory piece of shit.

(34,119 posts)and how they handled their time during the first round of questioning. I think those on that committee were not the Dems who always want to keep their powder dry that caused us so much worry before, there is fight there and it was wonderful. It would have been fun to watch if it had not been such a serious matter that we are likely (?) to lose because of the numbers. Avenatti is another voice. A very loud voice and very strong opinion and I am thrilled that he is here. We can use all the help we can get being in the minority. Every person swayed can call and demand their person vote appropriately.
Again, I am always surprised at those who refuse to take help when we get it just because they are not a Democrat or whatever they are not. I hope he keeps up and I don't think there is any chance he does not.

(14,565 posts)I can't predict how Republicans will react to this, and that is basically what we are dealing with.
My Republican aunt called me an hour ago on another matter, but she brought up the latest accuser in an angry voice and said she is absolutely disgusted at the treatment Kavanaugh is receiving. I guess that is the danger...whether it motivates their base. Normally my aunt doesn't say much of anything political but she is a Trump supporter and watches the local Fox affiliate all day. I can only guess that station must be treating this as outrageous.
We had to do something. The timing is the wild card. It would have been preferable for hints dropped into the mainstream weeks ago during the hearings so it didn't seem last second and desperate.
