Kavanaugh withdrawal will depend on how much laughter TrumPutin associates with the (cough) fine fellow.

(128,978 posts)and then that gives the opening to withdraw.
Any withdrawal has to have a MASSIVE face-saving move to preface it because these allegations would threaten his current position on the D.C. Circuit.

Hes already a Federal Judge with a lifetime appointment. If he were to withdraw, he would raise questions about his veracity during the vetting process when he first was appointed to the bench and his fitness to continue as a federal judge. I dont see him withdrawing.

(1,803 posts)if confirmed, and its far too risky to take the chance. If hes confirmed and appointed now, he would have more of a reason to be biased against the left and retaliate from the bench.

(58,785 posts)have him fail a vote but wants the electorate to see them give that vote its best shot. They're very worried about turnout on November 6.

(1,803 posts)I also heard the theory that McConnell wants a vote in the hope that the Senate will fail to confirm Kavanaugh and a message will be sent to Trump. I think these theories are far too convoluted and tenuous to be true.
McConnell is driven by the desire to maintain power. He will be perceived as weak by the Republican base if Kavanaugh isnt confirmed. At this point, I think it more likely that McConnell is trying behind the scenes to put off the vote so no Republican Senator will have to go on record as supporting Kavanaugh as more women (and men?) come out of the woodwork with stories about Kavanaughs history of disqualifying conduct and the nomination ultimately has to be withdrawn. McConnell is looking for a way to save face and protect the Republican majority. He will do anything he can to stay in power.

(58,785 posts)I've also heard it speculated that if he can ram Kavanaugh through now and worry about continuing fallout later, he will. Of course, that was, I think, 2?, 3? of 5 (so far) victims ago.

(9,670 posts)And please look me up and admonish me if Kavanaugh does, indeed, withdraw from consideration tonight...as he should do.
I think the Senate Republicans are going to plug their ears, close their eyes, hold their breath and vote in favor of Kavanaugh, and they'll do it as soon as Grassley is able to bring them to the floor.
I never trust that they will do the right thing, or the logical thing, or the politically sensible thing, and that includes placing a sexual predator perjurer on the highest Court of the land with a lifetime, virtually unimpeachable, appointment.
These are not Americans. These are sell-outs to the oligarchs of Russia, wishing to impose their kakocracy on us and never let us out of their grips. They are so close. They are so so close.

(4,690 posts)I have a hard time believing the GOP can confirm him now (though they've set the bar so low it's under ground, so they might).
As long as he stays in they can't bring up someone else who might have a better chance of being confirmed plus the optics for the GOP are just horrendous and they're bleeding support from women and moderates like it's a severed artery.
