He hit a parked car, got out looked at the damage, got back into his car, drove around the corner and passed out in the car. He SWORE it was NOT him. Had me almost convinced, until he was brought up on charges, and threatened with a Court Martial. He got an Article16, and was never promoted again.

(1,204 posts)The republicans could very bring about some false stories to muddy the waters. I don't see any reason why we should put that past them. There is also the possibility that some people have personal issues that lead them to jump in with their own claims. Unlike normal situations, there is a much more increased chance of false stories coming forward for various reasons. I'm not saying any of them are, I have no idea, but I hope the folks who are handling them are being very careful and deliberate. I know it can be tempting to just run with everything if it's something we want to hear (odd way of putting it, I know)
*edit* I just noticed the person you responded to said "all lying". That seems pretty damn unlikely.

(4,103 posts)Possible but I wouldn't bet any money on it. Kavanaugh fits the exact profile these women paint of him, read these question he came up with all on his own to ask Bill Clinton during the Whitewater investigation, there was absolutely no reason for him to get this graphic, but it's obvious he got off on it.

(31,261 posts)Kavanaugh got them drunk, he got drunk, then he and his best buddie gang raped them. I don't think that any of the women are lying. There is a clear pattern that is consistent woman to woman. If Kavanaugh had managed to get Mrs. Ford's cloths off, him and Judge would have likely gang raped her.

(10,170 posts)4 people with nothing to gain but harassment from Trump cultists come forward and you think all of them are lying because why? But Kav is telling the truth? Who's got more to gain? Kav who has a chance to force his Catholic misogynist ideas onto all of us. Or 4 people who have nothing to gain but harassment?
Because we terrible liberals are paying off all these folks? Yet the FBI, congress and white house goons can't present any evidence of this despite all the money Putin and the Koch brothers can throw at them. Boy are we good.

Add to that the common themes among the complaints.
Add to that the lack of connection between the accusers.
Add to that other witnesses to his being an angry drunk.
You stop adding and go, man that's just too much to be all lies.

(4,450 posts)Sure, it's technically possible. But sexual assault allegations are statistically speaking almost NEVER false. My wife works in the field and you can check the statistics from the FBI, WHO, several other reputable organizations and false accusations are so incredibly rare that they make up an insignificant fraction of the total. So to be blunt, if there are five women openly accusing Kavanaugh, you can bet your bottom dollar on two things: first, Kavanaugh has committed sexual assault and second, there are MANY others who have not come forward with their own stories.

(6,831 posts)No woman in her right mind would subject herself to this level of microscopic scrutiny by men who have already made up their minds that there is no truth to the accusation. Additionally, it's not just the woman who comes forward that gets the invasive intrusion into her life and the vulgar vile comments smearing her for anything she said/did that doesn't measure up to what some one thinks is chaste, virginal, appropriate behavior, it's her entire family and everyone she knows. There is not enough money/publicity in the world to make this accusation on a whim or a lie.
Remember that rape is THE most under-reported crime in the country. For every claim that gets made, at least a dozen go unreported. And even when it does get reported, there are men like Joe Arpaio who refuse to process evidence that would validate the claim.

(19,858 posts)investigate this. GOPers can try to sweep one person under the rug, but now we have 5 women:
(1) Prof Ford
(2) Deborah Ramirez
(3) Julie Swetnick (sp?)
(4) Anonymous 1 -- incident happened in the Denver area
(5) Anonymous 2
None of these women know each other, yet there accusations all have a similar theme.
This needs to be investigated and if Kavanaugh was a high integrity/honest/decent person that he claims to be, he would be the 1st in line asking for an investigation.

(58,785 posts)Christine Blasey-Ford's and Julie Swetnick's stories are high school in 1982 when he would have been 17, Debbie Ramirez at Yale in winter 1983 or '84, and this one during college years in August 1985 at age 20.
Good friend Mark Judge is ID'd through the whole period. Judge attended Catholic U of America in Washington DC and got his bachelor's in 1990, Kavanaugh was 5 hours away at Yale but Judge was allegedly there when Debbie Ramirez would have been molested. This last one allegedly took place in August. There may just be other fallouts of those two's influence on each other.
Judge's girlfriend whom he allegedly admitted nonconsensual intercourse/rape to is speaking to the FBI.

Btw, it sounds like the abused woman had a relationship of some kind with Kavanaugh. If so, she'd be the first mentioned. So far NO steady girlfriends or relationships with women turned up over all these years. He got married around 39 or so.
Forgot to mention, someone last night said Republicans asking questions about this new allegation seemed notably concerned that this would have occurred at a time when he was working with Ken Starr. His history from those years has been almost entirely hidden ahead of the hearing. Wonder if this woman knows anything of interest?

(34,386 posts)Maybe he does. Hell, it took 21 accusers of Packwood to come forward for the GOP to throw him overboard, and the stakes weren't nearly as high then as they are now. It's going to take a lot more than five (and counting) women for the Senate Republicans to abandon Kavanaugh.
The only way that loathsome creature isn't seated on SCOTUS the First Monday in October is if we manage to shame a few Republicans into doing the right thing. I'm looking at you, Collins, Murkowski, Sasse, Corker, and Flake.

7962
(11,841 posts)But its scary that unproven accusations, provided at a last minute, can convict someone when thats not how we do things.
What would an FBI investigation find? I think the WH SHOULD have asked them to look into it, because it would have taken little time to complete. because theres little FOR them to investigate. And the most egregious of the recent claims has now been recanted; that of an actual rape 20 yrs ago. But its still there.
I would think he should be voted down based on his hearing performance and answers.
I DONT think anyone should be convicted on claims that in a courtroom would likely be tossed as hearsay. If that happens, this soon will become the norm. I dont think this compares to Roy Moore, because there was SO many people saying it was known that Moore liked "younger" girls. It doesnt compare to Cosby, because Cosby actually admitted spiking drinks.
After Weinstein, Spacey and the other recent high profile cases have come out, it was making it easier for women to speak out. I'm afraid this is going to possibly push many back into being quiet.
Mister Ed
(5,933 posts)Kavanaugh is not facing conviction for a crime in these Senate proceedings. He is merely facing the possibility of being turned down for a job, in favor of some other candidate with less baggage.
It might be that the next candidate will be someone whose legal views are even less palatable to liberal Democrats than his are. That should be of no concern to the women coming forward to tell their stories. They are seeking justice, and political calculations should have no part in that.
7962
(11,841 posts)This is turning into exactly what I predicted 2 weeks ago when it all started.

Im convinced that the Republican Senate was fully aware of Kavanaugh very early on and were just counting on no one finding out. It makes a twisted kind of sense if you can imagine Republicans would be inspired by their ole pal Putin. Perhaps they decided that they need the most compromised judge they could find so they could hold it over his shitty head like Russian kompromat
