Just the administrative process of opening/reopening an investigation, assigning personnel, and figuring out a game plan takes several days. When agents have to travel, schedule interviews, take statements, etc., you're already measuring in weeks rather than days. And that's assuming Trump orders them to reopen the background check this afternoon.
Flake better be prepared to walk back his one-week deadline, or else this is a farce.

(4,608 posts)This is a 30-year-old sexual assault allegation with witnesses who made need to be tracked down and/or have retained counsel.
On edit: Looking back, the FBI had already interviewed Hill and others before the hearings began. It was that leaked FBI report that made her claims public.
So the FBI had already done most of the "investigating" when they were sent back to investigate.

(31,261 posts)Question the men named under oath and visit the house where the assault took place. If the house was renovated, drawings of the way it was before the renovations should exist. All that can be done in a couple of days.

(4,608 posts)I love how all of a sudden, in the blink of an eye, everyone here considers it just a known fact that the FBI can conduct a credible investigation of a thirty-year-old crime in under a week.

(31,261 posts)Maryland, where the assault occurred does not have a time limitation on such crimes.

(1,058 posts)it was a misdemeanor with a one year statute of limitations, there's a thread here that explains it, so Kavanaugh can't be prosecuted for it.

Seriously, when they are tasked to move fast they do it.

The FBI is known for a lot of things, but speed is not one of them.

(3,259 posts)Please learn about the server investigation and the politicization of it. That would be like saying the Kav investigation has now gone on for years. His first background check was a long time ago. That is not how one should look at these investigations.
They are one of the most powerful and fastest moving government agencies.
Anecdotes should not make ones worldview.

Fast compared to what? The Department of Agriculture? This stuff is so comically divorced from reality it doesn't merit response.
WeekiWater
(3,259 posts)Sorry that is your takeaway.
Yes, they are much faster responding than the Department of Agriculture.
It's simply a fact that they are one of the most powerful and fastest responding government agencies.

You are comparing grapes to watermelons, some similarities, but vast differences.
