or a replacement nominee. So they still have three months with a 51-49 advantage regardless of what happens with Kavanaugh and the mid-terms? I was talking to someone about it today and I was thinking that the new Congress usually doesn't get seated until the beginning of January.

(6,357 posts)Mitch was adamant that we couldnt consider a nomination in the last year of a presidency. If the senate turns I doubt hell have the same commitment to wait for the next senate to be sworn in.

(6,357 posts)My comment was intended to mean that the senate composition ias it stands today will be in place until 1/2/19, including any lame duck or retiring senators.

(7,410 posts)before the midterms when in reality they still have two months in power after the election and if they are going to lose the majority anyway they will get someone confirmed before possibly losing power in the Senate for a long time.

(3,610 posts)Don't congress critters take off for vacations... All of the House and many Senators will have time off to go campaign back in their districts, and then we have Thanksgiving (there goes November). December is Christmas, don't they get the entire month off usually? Seems they are on vacation more than they are in session, by a huge margin.
