One the other hand, the arms of recalcitrant GOP senators can be twisted pretty tight in that amount of time.

(14,141 posts)they can literally flood the DC/Maryland area interviewing, while simultaneously finding Judge and any other asshole friends of his living elsewhere and send leads to interview them as well. Manpower is never an issue with the FBI.

(508 posts)I would characterize it as being uninformed as to exactly what the FBI might be able to accomplish in one week's time. Hence the question.

(15,805 posts)these investigations at the same. I wouldn't worry that the FBI can't complete their task, but rather be concerned that the Republicans will hide their findings under lock and key to keep the Dems and the public from ever learning the truth about Kavanaugh.

(508 posts)That's what I was thinking. Trump ordered the investigation and the FBI will report findings to Trump, or someone in his administration that explains things to him. They won't be released to the public unless Trump orders them released.

(40,245 posts)They have all said that a week in the FBI is longer than people would think.
major debacle
(508 posts)If the stars of all the Law & Order franchises can wrap things up in one hour, I guess one week is probably sufficient for the FBI.
That was funny. Thanks.

They can do a lot.
Someone could also come forward.

(146,351 posts)A great deal could be accomplished, if enough resources are dedicated to it. You'll be amazed, probably, at the extent of what has been done in a week.
Further, those agents doing the investigation will follow threads, wherever they lead. As long as there is some connection to the scope that defines the investigation, they'll dig it out. That could lead to all sorts of things that we don't expect, I think. Those folks are very, very good at what they do.

(4,723 posts)but I am sure it will be mindblowing what they can do. I'd not be surprised if there wasn't already work being done on Kavanaugh before he was nominated by Trump.

(345 posts)This ain't the Mayberry PD. Dozens of agents assigned to an investigation. They can interview the victims and any other person of interest they name. Then they can interview any other person THOSE people name. Basically follow every trail of evidence they are given.
They will undoubtedly request a sit down with Rape-anaugh and his accomplice Judge.
In all interviews they can, and likely will, ask if the subject is willing to take a polygraph. The person has every right to refuse, but that refusal goes into the report.
The way I see it, Rape-anaugh has two choices; he can take the polygraph, and if they ask him if his testimony before congress was truthful he'll likely blow the machine up, just based on his sworn testimony based on the meaning of certain words. Or he can refuse, and that goes into the report. Combine this with his previous judicial opinions on polygraphs (he 100% supported them until now) and it's, shall we say, not a good look.
Most importantly, keep in mind how badly the FBI has been disparaged and disrespected by this administration and the republican party as a whole. I have full confidence that the FBI won't do anything improper, but these guys have basically just been given a hunting license to go after the reputation of the right wing.

Michael Smercomish had a survey on his show this morning regarding the impact of an FBI investigation of Kavanaugh. Would it hurt Kavanaugh? help him? or be neutral? The response was that 66% felt such an investigation would be negative for BK, 12% positive for BK, and 22% neutral.
Bring it on!

You be surprise to how much info can be gathered and dissected

(13,877 posts)Indeed...the FBI has every reason to hit the ground running and gunning on this one. They don't abide sniveling frat boys or pompous orange beings. This week...what a week to be alive. A significant turning point that began way back with the Women' Suffrage Movement. They are our forebearers. Now, women can rightfully begin to take their places in the power structure of elected office. They are doing so at mind-boggling pace.
