Current Affairs: How We Know Kavanaugh Is Lying (long, brilliant analysis)

This is a very long article, but well worth reading and posting in other forums, even though there are already lots of other articles on Kavanaugh's lying:

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/09/how-we-know-kavanaugh-is-lying

If we are taking an uncorroborated claim seriously, though, what does that mean for standards of proof? Much later in life, Ford told her therapist and husband, but at the end of the day we only have her word. If we were to base his guilt on her word alone, then wouldn’t people be able to make any kind of false allegation they liked?

Not quite. The existence of a “he said, she said” does not mean it’s impossible to figure out the truth. It means we have to examine what he said, and what she said, as closely as possible. If both parties speak with passion and clarity, but one of them says many inconsistent, evasive, irrational, and false things, while the other does not, then we actually have a very good indicator of which party is telling the truth. If a man claims to be innocent, but does things—like carefully manipulate words to avoid giving clear answers, or lie about the evidence—that you probably wouldn’t do if you were innocent, then testimony alone can substantially change our confidence in who to believe.

In this case, when we examine the testimony of Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford honestly, impartially, and carefully, it is impossible to escape the following conclusions:

1. Brett Kavanaugh is lying.
2. There is no good reason to believe that Christine Blasey Ford is lying. This does not mean that she is definitely telling the truth, but that there is nothing in what Kavanaugh said that in any way discredits her account.

I want to show you, clearly and definitively, how Brett Kavanaugh has lied to you and lied to the Senate. I cannot prove that he committed sexual assault when he was 17, and I hesitate to draw conclusions about what happened for a few minutes in a house in Maryland in the summer of 1982. But I can prove quite easily that Kavanaugh’s teary-eyed “good, innocent man indignant at being wrongfully accused” schtick was a facade. What may have looked like a strong defense was in fact a very, very weak and implausible one.

2. I think Kavanaugh's performance after Dr. Ford was a huge reason to disqualify him

He was so disgusting that even without Dr. Ford he showed how bad he would be on the Supreme Court. He looked insane. No one is showing the picture of him doing those strange tongue movements to his cheek along with the sniffing and wild look in his eyes.

3. I don't think this is about truth. Nothing in trump admin is. It's about male indifference to women.

Here's the bottom line:

REPUBLICANS DON'T CARE.

They don't CARE if the allegations are true.
They don't CARE if Kavanaugh is lying.

They don't care.

With the level of INDIFFERENCE to truth and facts in this administration and everyone in it or involved in it, truth doesn't matter. And WOMEN certainly don't matter -- have NEVER mattered to them.

They'll always try the "she's lying" or "she's just confused" or other excuses not to believe women when they tell their stories about rape, domestic abuse and sexual assault.

When THAT doesn't work - when the woman or women are credible like in this Kavanaugh situation, they'll just whine, cry, play the "victim" and talk about how "unfair" it all is that they're being "targeted" like this.

Because that's the only recourse they have when the THREE LITTLE WORDS they cannot say about all of this is: "WE. DON'T. CARE."

That's the bottom line. They don't care.

They don't CARE if Dr. Ford or the other women are telling the truth. It's irrelevant to them.
They don't CARE if Kavanaugh is lying. It's irrelevant to them.

What IS RELEVANT to them is POWER. Specifically preserving minority white male POWER OVER everyone else in the country.
What IS RELEVANT to them is the same thing Trump (projecting again as usual) is accusing Democrats of (simply wanting power).

This ENTIRE administration was borne out of the seething, fear-driven, ignorant, ANGRY need of white men in the United States to maintain SUPREME POWER over women and people of color.

5. I believe they are indifferent to the truth

... but I also believe that they don't want to be voted out of office. So it's important to them to be perceived by the voters that they DO CARE about the truth. This is all a game to them, seeing how much shit they can get away with and still get re-elected. Hence the FBI "investigation" for optics-only.

That's why we have to show them in November, the game has already gone too far. There have already been too many lies and misdeeds, and we're just disgusted. When we do win both houses in November, our first play should be to impeach Kavanaugh's SCOTUS appointment. Then we go for impeachment proceedings against the orange asshole and Mother's boy.

4. Very useful, detailed recounting for people who

were left wondering about something, or maybe just want to count how many times Kavanaugh has lied under oath about this so far.

The very fact that Kavanaugh didn't protect this critically important, 230+-year-old hearing process from Republican attempts to smash this obstacle to their schemes (exactly what it is meant to be) is proof positive all by itself that he does not belong in a judicial position at any level. This was his first duty as an appellate court judge on his way to the Supreme Court, and instead of protecting this institution from the barbarians he joined them to tear it down.

7. Laurence Tribe called this article compelling and meticulous in a new tweet:

A compelling, step-by-step, meticulous demonstration that Judge Kavanaugh perjured himself with some frequency in his Senate testimony on Sept 27:

And he tweeted to Maddow and a number of other MSNBC hosts and experts about it:

It's an exhaustive and compelling analysis of Bart O'Kavanaugh's testimony, the inconsistencies and holes to fly a jetliner through. In addition to his jerk persona of arrogant entitlement, the man is a serial liar.

Just like the Boss.

The question remains: how many lies before a nominee for SCOTUS is finally deemed unfit? Or is the yardstick the same used by the Imposter-in-Chief???

In any case, a worthwhile read, length and all.
