Polls show key Trump states flipping back to Democrats

Polls show key Trump states flipping back to Democrats

Unless you’re a political junkie, it’s not easy keeping track of the seats up for election. Here’s why midterm elections and chamber control matters. USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – New polls show Democrats doing well in the Great Lakes industrial states that were crucial to President Donald Trump's victory.

Democratic senatorial candidates have double-digit leads in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, according to Ipsos Public Affairs polls released Wednesday. Democrats running for governor in those states also have healthy advantages.

“We went into it thinking that these races were going to be a little bit closer," said Ipsos vice president Chris Jackson. "But it looks like the Democrats are performing pretty strongly across the region with a couple of exceptions.”

The exceptions are a dead heat in Indiana's Senate race and in Ohio's gubernatorial contest.

Trump won Indiana – the home of his running mate – by 19 percentage points and captured the swing state of Ohio by 8 points.

But it's Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that propelled Trump to victory with razor-thin margins in those states.

The problem was people that call themselves progressives, but spent most of 2016 vilifying democrats. At some point the charges from those people get lodged in the heads of casual voters that don't know better.

It shows how much Russian "active measures" on social media coupled with the theft of Dem contact and turnout models enabled Trump's victory.

Right now it sounds almost identical to NAFTA with a tiny concession from Canada on dairy. If anything it might hurt Trump if his base expects change and nothing happens.

This November election is an absolute wave for the Democratic Party in Michigan. You have a perfect storm here up and down the ticket. A strong Dem candidate for Governor, a Rep one that is a Trumpster and can be tied directly to the Flint Water Crisis. No threat to out Dem Senator. And 3, count them 3, ballot proposals that will rally liberal voters to vote; 1. legalized recreational marijuana (polling at 60%), redistricting non partisan boards, and automatic voter registration which includes several measures to make voting easier. All 3 will pass, we'll have a Democratic Governor, the state's house and senate should be blue, and we'll flip some seats in the US House while holding the seat for the US Senate.

Michigan is about to undergo a revolution.
